One of the main things that I hear from my fellow tradesmen is how the elite and white-collar professional class don't care about or respect the blue collar working class. This disrespect comes out in many ways, big and small. But you can hear it a lot in the political rhetoric coming out of the progressive side these days. It was there in the COVID conversation, how work-from-home white collar folks pushed for endless lockdowns and vaccine mandates, to be imposed on the working class whose labor they relied on to stay home. It's there in the way they talk about a universal basic income instead of high-paying trade jobs, and in the way they push for low-wage green jobs instead of union energy jobs.

But you can really see it in how they talk about college. Take the latest issue that progressives are pushing the Biden administration on—student loan cancelation. They want us taxpayers to pay off the student loans of the college educated, who on average make more money than those without a degree, and for whom the economy recovered almost immediately post-COVID. Then they have the audacity to tell us that it will help blue collar workers. They want us to enthusiastically agree to pay off their student loan debt, and then have the nerve to tell us it's in our interest as Americans.

That's what I mean about disrespect. And it pervades the entire conversation about college in America today.

I really don't understand this. Trump and Vance both went to ivy league schools. Trump is sending his son to a top school. Vance was venture capitalist. How are they not elite? Do you think Vance is not going to send his kids to the ivy league? Are you not mad at them because they're so rich they won't need loan forgiveness? Leaving the college debt aside (and so much of it is paying off the interest, not the original loan): how are the GOP doing anything to SHOW they support the middle class, not just talk about it? Google will tell you Trump has employed undocumented workers his entire career. He has repeatedly demeaned the military. Jobs are way up right now. Trump wants to slap tariffs on food, which means food prices will rise.

Can you provide some data showing that 75% of the kids in Sterling are in ESL?

You can find that on the Virginia DOE school profile website. We are next door. Years ago, there was a boundary change to our ES to bring in kids 5 miles away due to an exploding ESL population. They had no more room so rezoned them to our school. Our school went from 25% low income to over 60% in several years. Guess what went out the window? Special services for kids who were already there. This happened to my neighbors. Their kids' reading problems were never addressed. One mom fought but was told her below grade reading level child was reading well enough not to require services. Other things like homework, reading novels, reading groups for advanced readers, science fairs, people fairs were out. Parent events were greatly reduced. If your child was advanced, they were often placed in groups with language learners. So yes, there is an impact.

^^ oh and using class time to prepare for tests ad nauseam. Since kids weren't required to study independently at home, the teachers would go through the materials to prepare. Teachers would also read required books in class aloud (again no homework).
