She is a public school English teacher. She needs to keep her political views to herself when she’s on the job. End of story.

Please explain the difference between a political view and explaining current events using facts. When does discussing Israel/Gaza veer out of discussion because there's disagreement? In my view, it means it needs to be discussed MORE.

This a 1000 times! It is likely to impact some of the kids directly. The war is spreading and intensifying and it is likely that the US will send troops at some point. Hell, even before that, it's likely to affect the elections in a month. Since they are 17 year olds whose government asks them to register for the draft (for example) how it is not relevant which war they might be fighting in?

Our kids should be aware of what's going on in the world.

You’re exactly right! They now are aware that some of their teachers are anti-Semitic.

You really think you're helping save Jews by yelling anti-Semitism every time someone criticizes Israel?

The Daily Wire and New York Post are part of the vast right wing conspiracy Hillary Clinton spoke so accurately about all those years ago. They do not follow any journalism tenets, operate in bad faith always, aren’t interested in any way, shape or form in truth, and are simply not credible outlets to be taken seriously. Their “coverage” of local schools should always be viewed with extreme skepticism — they are exploiting the schools for a more cynical political agenda. And they are putting your children at risk.

We saw this in LCPS a couple of years ago with the rabid, inaccurate coverage of transgender issues that whipped conservatives, all of whom are mentally ill, into such frenzies that people would attend board meetings from out of state. It was all grandstanding bullshit and led to the false pretenses that allowed Youngshit, the worst governor in Virginia’s history, to be elected. LCPS is still struggling to recover from the bullshit.

Don’t let that happen to APS.

So, facts don't count when spoken by people you don't like?

I dispute your premise that there were "facts." The Daily Wire and NY Post do not utilize "facts" in their reporting and it sounds like this bad-faith right wing group that went running to them isn't a fan of "facts" either.

So, no, their "facts" don't count.

You may sit down now. You have been dismissed.

And we should definitely listen to people like you, who call everyone with opposing beliefs “mentally ill,” throw in random insults that aren’t event relevant to the topic, and tell everyone what they “should” be concerned about?

I would have no issue with a social studies or English teacher having students discuss current issues in class, covering both sides of the issues and considering pros and cons on both sides. From the exact text of the assignments and the emails quoted in this article that does not appear to be what is happening. The teacher is purely instructing students in a one-sided way to advocate for her cause. That is inappropriate.

If the story is true (and a big IF, given thr source), then I have some concerns. I don’t think children should be made to feel uncomfortable by their teacher because of their religion or race or gender. The way these questions are posed and the teachers history of making strong political statements at board meetings would make me uncomfortable if I was Jewish. I am not. Also, there is a huge difference between creating an academic environment where students are learning to think critically and to make arguments for all sides versus this. Which appears completely one-sided where the teacher strongly and personally believes in one side.
