USYNT ID Invitees

For the boys selection, anyone think any of the selections were a surprise? Or is the drama mainly on the girls side?

my guess is a little bit of both….. or a lot on the girls side. Speaking for our DDs experience her teammates and their parents were incensed. As another poster indicated ironic ally pretty accurately (my how word travels) that it was clear as day it was politics involved. My kiddo didn’t care but man o man….. others wished they had older important siblings that day.

2011 specifically around here is deep with pretty talented players so I can see why this is going off, especially with only so many spots to hand out for girls. Congrats to those that got spots, hopefully there's other opportunities for others in the future.

oh its coming next tryouts. Coaches seem to overlook how things are interconnected. Strong players that have carried teams that were overlooked take note of the politics and make adjustments down the road. Now that dust of movements have settled those little decisions have big ripples down the road once parents start talking. Parents that want whats best for their DCs will look to link w winning packages and throw their weight around come tryouts.

1000% things like this is like a rude awakening for parents who feel the coach will be fair and been loyal but overlooked

I'll read between the lines here. If you have a multiple offer kid, are you saying a parent can say, we will come to xyz instead of abc team if you recommend them to the regional camp?

What do you think happened at VDA?

, no
Who went to VDA for an ID center invite?

IYKYK, BP is a US Soccer talent scout and he came from FCV, now go look at the lists.

VDA was sending a lot of players to ID centers for BP and are continuing to do it. They also have more players in real ynt than anyone in DMV before BP came.

4 of those players listed are via FCV/BP for VDA. You mean to tell me that if BP didn't come VDA would have 4 other players?

This is how it works. How do you think BP got those players to follow him to VDA? It wasn't for his soccer development and coaching techniques. It's a mutually beneficial arrangement even if it isn't explicitly talked about.

Heard this through typical parent chatter as well. Doesn't mean it's true but generally you can find some truths in parent sideline chatter. Allegedly Pepperoni told those players he would not recommend them to YNT ID Center any longer if they did not follow to VDA.
yet at least for the girls… some of those players weren’t better than the existing ones

Politics as usual!

VDA hosted last year at Howison Park, before BP. This is a tired argument. If you actually knew anything, you would know that youth coaches are not allowed to scout youth games now for us soccer. They scout professional and college games. College coaches scout youth games now.

What argument? Your statement just does not apply here. College coaches are not recommending players, all of these selections are done at the club level via local coaches.

Club coaches recommend. US Soccer chooses.

Is there a cap how many players come from each club?

If the boys list is accurate and DCU is sending 11, I doubt it.

They’re accurate, a couple of the kids on the list have posted it.

The ID camp we're discussing here looks to be a more local version than the regional ones held in the past. This is not to diminish the accomplishments of those selected at all. It's still an exclusive pool and all of the attendees should be proud.

The link above shows a list of 2010 boys for a Northeast Region ID center in Wilmington this year. The ones just announced are, I think, exclusive to DC, MD, and VA.

If this is an expansion of scope, I applaud the USYNT for bringing in more kids to look at.

That was last year’s regional ID center. It restarts every academic year — first local (DC/MD/VA) and then if you move on you go to regional (the January one you pointed out) which is a larger region (most of southeast) and then if you move on again you go to the national ID camp.

ECNL making headway on MLS Next, watch out!

This statement won't age well after they move past this initial stage

Isn't VDA hanging with DCU across all the ages? Thought the 2011 VDA boys beat DCU at copa recently.

Anonymous wrote:It won't. The federation stands by how things are being currently done but the net they cast and how they cast it has a lot of flaws. I don't want to disparage the accomplishment either, all the selections are players for sure, I just know for certain that the process is flawed everywhere and will continue to be. Especially since this is primarily used as a marketing and recruiting tactic first and foremost.

😆
There isn't a country in the world where National Team selections (youth and senior) aren't followed by these exact same arguments and gripes.

Some valid, most not.
