USYNT ID Invitees

First of all, Congratulations to all the players that were chosen.

I am VERY surprised by a few clubs and they players that were picked. Some of them are new to the team and other have been there for a few years. Not sure how that were picked, especially since there are stronger players that should be included in that roster.

This has been covered before. Politics and connections, one of the biggest contributors was recently hired and pulled players from another club and that person is also a US Soccer talent scout, you would think it's conflict of interest but that allows him to make promises and keep them.

Regardless, it's an opportunity and congrats to them, but don't expect much change to the process.

How will change happen if this continues on? Congrats to those who truly deserve it!

It won't. The federation stands by how things are being currently done but the net they cast and how they cast it has a lot of flaws. I don't want to disparage the accomplishment either, all the selections are players for sure, I just know for certain that the process is flawed everywhere and will continue to be. Especially since this is primarily used as a marketing and recruiting tactic first and foremost.

You have to understand what these invitations mean. Clubs nominate their players and a certain number will be "chosen". How many invitations a club receives speaks more to the reputation of the coaches than the skills of the players. All of the big, well connected club coaches from ECNL/GA will get to send a few of their favorite players. The coaches decide who they want to reward based on any number of factors: recruiting and retaining players, placating parents, and yes politics. Talent factors in because a coach doesn't want to ruin their reputation by sending a terrible player, but it is not the only factor. If a player is chosen it means they are a good player and more importantly one of the coach favorites at that club. It does not mean the player will "called up" to USYNT training camps which is quite rare especially in this area.

Correct. And it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what's going on if you connect all the dots on movement and selections, we all know who the holds the keys around here. If your DC really cares that much about a social media post, go play for VDA.

Just waiting on the blowback from some of the soccer moms whose players were not picked by the coaches. Sidelines will be lit this week.

Look- if you are going to post something like this, the protocol is to include a link to the info.

Won't happen. The full list isn't privy to the public via some link, only those that have been invited have the full list of invites from the area.

I don't know whether any of this is true, but I do know that nowhere diminishes accomplishment more than this board.

Is it not possible to celebrate the players but also highlight a flawed process? Size of the net and how it's cast is a problem whether you agree or not, that doesn't take away from the accomplishments of the players that have been 'caught'.

No way did our club coach or DOC nominate all the players from our club that have attended USYNT ID centers.

A few years back, when my DD was 14 and these invites started, a group of players from her team were invited. Included was a player who had just moved over from a GA club earlier that year. She was known to be a top player on this GA team, but she was (and continues to be) a bench player on my DDs team. Sometimes. she doesn't even make it off the bench. She was invited to two ID centers, and none since (its been three years).

My DD has attended several ID centers and over a dozen YNT camps, handful of international trips, etc. Some of the stuff said here is not accurate.

Huh? So no way that a coach recommends it, you mentioned a girl that allegedly doesn't deserve a spot? Yet this whole thread isn't true. I'm lost.

Comparison is the thief of joy. Be happy for your kid, regardless. Be happy for the other kids, regardless.
