They all hold resale value. |
NP. Ivy had a Prius and a Jeep Wrangler. Wrangler was more fun, Prius was more practical for my commute. If I had some extra money, I wouldn’t mind having a Jeep for a weekend car, but today’s Jeeps are too expensive and a little more plush than the one I had. I miss the days of utility Jeeps- stick shift only, no air conditioning, no power windows…etc |
Your Jeep had windows?
|
I would get a new one, used are almost as expensive. But get a 2019 or newer for the newer model. |
I have a 2020, JL and love it. Zero issues. |
Jeep parts are readily available for all models going back to the original CJs. What is a good year depends on your intended use. If you want to off road and don't care as much for creature comforts, I like the CJ-5s and 7s, but decent ones are pricey unless you are adept with the wrench and want to restore. The JL is best for daily, but still very capable. Manual transmission and some corrosion issues due to the partially aluminum body. |
|
A utilitarian stick shift would be fun. I also really like the original Cherokee, which seemed large in the 90's but now looks pretty small compared to modern SUVs.
Not so sure about the Compass and Patriot and that tiny model Jeep has. I'm sure they wanted to diversify and appeal to a wider audience, but did it water down their brand? |
Yep. Had a hard top. |
|
Recent work trip and I had a Jeep Gladiator for my rental. Car rental was out of cars, so they “upgraded” me to the Gladiator. It was comfortable enough, had some power, but everything in the car felt cheap. Definitely wouldn’t want one as my daily cheap. Also, the gas mileage was terrible.
|
PP. Forgot to add most annoying thing about the Jeep rental were the nonstop Jeep waves and I got ducked in a grocery store parking lot. |
So your wrangler with snow tires does better in the snow than a stock outback? OK |
DP Not snow tires, but rather All-Terrain tires. They’re one step down from Mud Terrain tires, which are the most aggressive tread pattern you can get. Snow tires are their own unique thing with special rubber compounds that will be quickly destroyed on warm dry roads. But a Jeep or other true 4-wheel-drive platform with All-Terrain tires will absolutely outperform any AWD type car in snow. Zero question of that. |
| BTW, mud tires are horrible in the snow. Absolutely awful. |
