Maybe it should be normalized to the number of students at each school whose parents are paying for PSAT/SAT prep courses. |
If paying for PSAT/SAT prep would guarantee a good score, wouldn't the private schools and McLean/Langley have much higher number each year? |
There can be a correlation without a guarantee. |
Then why isn’t there a stronger correlation for privates ? |
Khan's SAT prep is free and is there for kids who want to use it. |
So lowest total since 2011, but highest from high schools other than TJ of any year from 2007 through 2025. Silver lining of sorts, if your goal was to strengthen other schools relative to TJ. |
Question: How can you just request to go to a High School. Do you not have to be zoned for it. |
That should be the strategy before changing the TJ's admission policy, but the reality is TJ exclusive courses aren't being offered to any other base high schools 4 years later, not even online campus. And all the discussions are about racial inequality, wealth disparity, all sorts of political agendas. If only the TJ exclusive courses are accessible to all the base high schools through the online campus, there won't be any buzz about how elite the TJ club is. |
There are specific grounds for transfer under FCPS’s transfer regulations. Some of the main ones are to take AP courses if you’re at an IB school (or vice versa) or to take a foreign language not offered at your base school. Langley is unusual in that it’s one of the only top high schools that has had extra seats in recent years and could accept pupil placements. Several of the other top schools have been closed to transfers. |
Langley is the only school offers Russian language, you request to learn Russian as foreign language, FCPS will accommodate. |
Once the class of 2025 average SAT scores are out then we can put a lid on this. Pretty certain the same trend will be seen. Clearly academic achievement has slipped. |
The top students are still elite, middle are okay, but the bottom is very low. Different tracks are now in the school. Low performing students have low SATs and low GPAs and will go to low ranked colleges. They should have stayed at their local school. |
Some other schools seem more obsessed with getting on the volleyball team than doing psat prep. |
They are definitely adjusting the curve to prevent people from failing to graduate with a TJ degree (which requires passing calculus). I think this is good news for the more competitive kids at TJ. |
They are eligible to advance to finalist. I think it usually requires writing an essay or something. About 80-90% of semifinalists become finalists. You might be awarded one of several merit based scholarships. it might be to a school you have no interest in or it might be corporate sponsored and applicable to any school. |
