You can hate on Dr. McKnight all you want, but, MCPS was in shambles way before her.

She was a huge part of the problem, but the BOE is an equally big part of the problem. She inherited a mess, did nothing, and left it a bigger mess. The BOE scapegoated her (probably with good cause but still)... they need to be held accountable now.

I know! She used her time machine to create these problems decades ago.

Her job was to fix the problems, regardless of whether they were already in place or created during her tenure. She didn't do that, and in fact made things worse.

Her brief tenure was spent mostly defending against the constant attacks from the Karens who post here. They seemed to be against her from day 1 and never gave her a chance. Some speculate it was because she was an AA woman.

You're never going to convince us that Monifa was some victim in her downfall from MCPS. She failed. Own it. Move on. To state otherwise really strips her own agency and whether you realize it or not, that is actually just as bad. If you believe she is a competent, capable leader, then you also can't simultaneously portray as a helpless, powerless victim. She could and should have done things better and differently, but she didn't. That's fine. Life goes on.

Electric buses are cheaper in the long run because of lower maintenance— they just cost more upfront. That’s why MCPS was able to find a contractor who said they would front the upfront costs in return for long term savings. It was a win-win, unless you think MCPS should have kept the long term savings for themselves.

Now the IG is reporting the contractor might have difficulties supplying the buses, maybe because demand is so high. That’s not great but it doesn’t tell me anything about whether the original decision was reasonable or if the delay will cost MCPS anything.

But the people who hate MCPS (or more likely hate all public schools) just throw crap against the wall because they don’t need to have an intelligent discussion they just need to complain.

According to the article, the problem wasn't the electric bus contract itself, but the failure of the vendor to provide the busses on time and in good condition. There was a subsequent failure on MCPS part to not follow up on contract penalties of $372,000, which I would agree was wasteful. In the short term, MCPS may have spent more than they would have if they purchased diesel busses, but in the long term they should still show a cost savings.

I don't think the order of 90 diesel school buses for $14.7 million can be counted as "wasteful" - they have to purchase new busses periodically. The reason for diesel instead of electric for that order was the shortage of electric busses.

Hi, the Inspector General reprimanding MCPS for spending millions of dollars it shouldn't have had to spend and failing to fine a a vendor for hundreds of thousands of dollars it should have fined its vendor for missed deadlines on is not "obsessing about minutiae."
