Don’t forget you’ll also have to pay entrance fees every time you enter the building. https://rockvillesportsarena.com/ Scroll all the way down… |
We've been to the Rockville Sports Arena on several occasions and I am not sure this is entirely correct. For example, one of the perks DMV players have is that they can participate in the Friday open gym for free. This just shows that there is a mechanism to bypass the front desk if you have some sort of credentials. You might say that MOJO is different from DMV and you would be correct. But MOJO rents the courts and likely has a contract that allows the players in for "free" if they participate in tryouts (they pay for the tryouts, so it's not exactly free). It is not clear how the facility handles the parents though - they might have to pay the entrance fee if they want to stay for tryouts. |
The Sportsplex recently updated their policy so now every spectator for any reason is paying their “maintenance fees.” DMV’s club pricing is particularly egregious considering they own the Rockville Sportsplex and don’t pay court rental fees. |
What are the fees for Platform? |
The two clubs had very similar fees last season. MEVC fees went up significantly this season, Platform hasn't posted their new fees yet. |
To be fair to DMV: they might not pay court rental fees, but they likely have a mortgage to pay. This is still not an excuse for the outrageous club fees. They likely did the math on renting courts vs buying the facility before signing a mortgage. |
MVSA tryout registration opens today at noon: https://www.mvsavbc.org/club-tryouts-registration
Next season fees are also posted: https://www.mvsavbc.org/club-fees We are not an MVSA family (didn't make one of their teams), but we participate in as many of their clinics / rec activities as we can. They should know how much we appreciate them for offering these reasonably priced opportunities and putting a pressure on the club fees in Maryland. Without this pressure, greed would likely prevail: see how the fees keep ballooning right across the Potomac. |
Keeping fees low is great, and should be supported. MVSA being around certainly doesn't hurt. But there is enough demand for club volleyball in Montgomery County that clubs could easily charge VA prices and still get players. There are even clubs on MD side that are charging high prices, as discussed on this thread. The other big factor keeping prices low is that many of the clubs in the western part of Montgomery County have a mission to give players access to volleyball, and try to live that mission. For example, multiple USAV Try Volleyball free clinics were hosted by Montgomery County clubs. Their rec leagues and fall programs are priced very low too. If you want to keep costs low in the area, make sure to keep supporting those clubs. |
MOCO posted their club fees for the next season. Fees went up compared to last year - all teams pay $100 more for the base fee. It is not clear why some teams (12-14) pay more for practice and others don't. 13s and 14s pay a lot more for practice ($300 top teams and $200 bottom teams). Bottom 14 teams pay $100 more for tournaments as well. https://www.mocovc.org/clubfees |
Looks like their prices went up the same $ amount as MVSA, less than MEVC, DMV etc on the MD side and less than a lot of clubs on the VA side. They still are lower cost than a most other options in the area. Comparing prices between younger and older teams has issues. Tournament costs usually are higher because the older teams and top teams do more travel tournaments, and practice costs can be higher because they practice more or practice at a higher cost facility. Plus, demand is just higher. Almost every club has higher costs for the older ages, including the MD clubs. We didn’t play for MOCO last year, but the club we played for didn’t get us any cost info other than a single fee. Having more detailed info is good, wish more clubs did it. |
You must be kidding me about the same $ amount as MVSA. I would take the lack of price transparency at MVSA at any time ![]() |
American posted their tryout dates (https://www.americanvolleyballclub.com/) and fees for the new season (https://www.americanvolleyballclub.com/fees).

Is there a difference between DMV Academy and DMV Elite? DMV Elite is supposed to be a decent club in NoVA, but their fees for 2024-2025 are $7200 for the season. Holy 5H!T!!!! |
I think providing links to their websites would help. I am not surprised by a $7200 club fee in Virginia. That's the land of greedy clubs and there is no MVSA over there to keep prices in check. |
MVSA prices went up by $50 for the 11s and 12s and by $150 for the rest of the teams. Comparatively, MOCO increased the prices by $100 for the older age groups (15-18). But the 14s in MOCO will pay a whooping $400 more than last year, the 13s $300-$350 more, and the 12s $200 more. They didn't go Virginia-type club fees, but the MOCO fees are almost double compared to those in MVSA. |
