WHO? New Democratic Nominee Thread

Kamala & Gavin ticket perhaps.

No. Would she be my first or fifth or tenth pick for president? No. But she was a normal, fairly popular senator and she can speak in complete sentences. I think it is more likely than not that she would still lose against Trump, but I can imagine scenarios where she would win. By contrast, it is now difficult to see how Biden gets through the campaign without imploding and taking Democrats in the House and Senate with him. Further, with Harris, there is mostly upside over the course of the campaign and the next four years. She can learn to be better at politics. Biden is only going to deteriorate. (And given that everyone can see that a vote for Biden is likely a vote for Harris anyway, might as well let her make her case.)
Have you seen her approval #s ?!?!?!?

This is a prime example of why Democrats lose. This ticket would get murdered. But you're so progressive you can't see it.

Both polarizing figures.

How is Whitmer polarizing?

If this had been an open primary, she would be my first choice.

Harsh covid restrictions for one

LOL, trying to spare lives of Michiganders is polarizing. Ok, Jan.

Sorry you are unaware of controversies of your preferred candidates but the reality is yes, her restrictions were very polarizing.

But she won re-election despite that and Red state mask politics don't matter because their electoral outcome is not in doubt.

? We are talking about her status as a national candidate for president not governor. She would need to appeal to independents and swing states. There is a reason she polls so far behind Trump in hypothetical matchups.

MI, the state she won relection in, is the main swing state. She only needs to appeal to MI, PA and WI. National polls are completely irrelevent because of the electoral college.

That would be persuasive if you had any evidence from PA and WI that she would beat Trump. I’ve backed up my claims with poll data and evidence she could be polarizing to independents from her behavior during the pandemic. You’ve backed up nothing.

No you haven't. You've only referenced national polling which vastly overrepresents all the areas which are irrelevent. CA, NY, TX, the entire South minus GA, the entire NorthEast minus PA, the entire Pacific NW, Hawaii, Alaska and the entire Plains States mean absolutely nothing in this election.

MI - she won re-election already
PA - MontCo Sarawomen will decide the election and mask crap is not something that matters to them.
WI - If she can win suburban white women in MI then she can win them in WI

He is 73 yo. It's obvious you are not around GenZ on a daily basis.

I am honestly shocked how many older GenX and young Boomers have their head in the sand. The old-line Dems are sinking the ship and the captain has no idea.

I will confess I find the idea of a second American Camelot (which this would be) positively thrilling. though I do believe it would appear to generation z, as well.

I like Pete Buttigieg but I don't know if he can win.

From Mike Murphy

My pitch:
Joe Biden steps aside
Huge surge of respect and affection for him in party
He takes leadership and anoints Whitmer and Warnock. Pitches pass the generational torch, crush Trump, save Democracy, historic 1st female President.
Surge in polls, +6 over Trump. Party delirious with joy.
Kamala joins parade. No other choice. EZ convention. Coronation.
Trump Crushed. Win House.

Other than taking it in the can, what do you like about him?

I acknowledged that my data was national when I posted it. You provided zero data. You keep blabbering about three states - that path also requires Nebraska’s 2nd which Biden barely won PLUS every state and district Biden won by at least six points! Tall order.

Someone like Whitmer would crush Trump, no doubt, but there are many other candidates that could crush Trump as well. The key factor is whether or not Biden has enough wherewithal to do the right thing.

"She" isn't running for president at the moment. If she were, she would crush your Trump master into the ground so deep that you and your Maga friends would never see the light of day again. Swing voters aren't stupid. They will vote for fit and qualified over Trump all day, any day. You better hope Biden doesn't drop out. If he does, Trump 2024 will be a failure as it should be.

Me, get some help? I'm not the one suggesting swing voters will vote for Trump over a viable opponent. Swing voters aren't stupid. You are.
