WHO? New Democratic Nominee Thread

By contrast, it is now difficult to see how Biden gets through the campaign without imploding and taking Democrats in the House and Senate with him. Further, with Harris, there is mostly upside over the course of the campaign and the next four years. She can learn to be better at politics. Biden is only going to deteriorate. (And given that everyone can see that a vote for Biden is likely a vote for Harris anyway, might as well let her make her case.)

Harris doesn't appeal to anybody except UMC female coastal elites and they don't matter in this election.

At the top of the ticket she's a net negative in WI, MN, AZ, and MI while doing nothing to help in PA or NV. She does have appeal in VA and dumping her would harm GA but this really can't be stressed enough - the only states that matter are PA, MI, WI and AZ.

Both polarizing figures.

How is Whitmer polarizing?

If this had been an open primary, she would be my first choice.

Harsh covid restrictions for one

LOL, trying to spare lives of Michiganders is polarizing. Ok, Jan.

Sorry you are unaware of controversies of your preferred candidates but the reality is yes, her restrictions were very polarizing.

But she won re-election despite that and Red state mask politics don't matter because their electoral outcome is not in doubt.

? We are talking about her status as a national candidate for president not governor. She would need to appeal to independents and swing states. There is a reason she polls so far behind Trump in hypothetical matchups.

No to Harris. No to Newsome. Neither has ANY appeal to the MI/PA/WI/AZ swing voters the Dems must get.

Kamala Harris.

I agree with PP that for obvious reasons (not white, female) she's severely underestimated.

This is our chance to rectify that and put her in the spotlight. She's a strong debater and she won't disappoint.

She makes word salads when speaking and gets flustered in the easiest, most softball interviews possible.

Not saying it's practical, but a Schumer / Jeffries ticket would positively electrify the electorate and capture the youth vote that has drifted from Biden as of late

He is 73 yo. It's obvious you are not around GenZ on a daily basis.

I am honestly shocked how many older GenX and young Boomers have their head in the sand. The old-line Dems are sinking the ship and the captain has no idea.

MI, the state she won relection in, is the main swing state. She only needs to appeal to MI, PA and WI. National polls are completely irrelevent because of the electoral college.

That would be persuasive if you had any evidence from PA and WI that she would beat Trump. I’ve backed up my claims with poll data and evidence she could be polarizing to independents from her behavior during the pandemic. You’ve backed up nothing.

DP. She overturned 40 years -- 40 YEARS -- of history in Michigan. Trumpsters planned to kidnap her and she persisted.

Gretchen Whitmer. If we wanted to grab some Republican votes, then maybe have Nikki Haley as VP.

That isn’t going to get her the electoral votes from important swing states. It just means she is a good fit for Michigan.
