APS Proposing Additional Days Off in 24-25 School Year

Under 180 days now. So APS has to meet 990 hour minimum. But next year has alot more half days. Gonna be tight if we get a snowy winter.

Nah, we had something like 13 snow days built in. So now we have 11. Very likely to be more than enough.

I mean APS is so freaking incompetent. Currently, months later, APS websites do not communicate that they also have off for these two PL days. Anyone who pulled the calendar and was making their school year plans would not know. How hard is it to updated the freaking calendars? God I hate APS.

I don't understand people who think that APS is above reproach. Having an accurate calendar is one of first and most basic tasks for a school system. This is a system that gets tax money to operate, and people seem to think it's wrong to criticize when they do a poor job? This kind of thing is a problem. APS shouldn't be making these kinds of mistakes.

It wasn’t a mistake. The mandate for training came after the calendar was published.

Uh, what are you talking about? The SB voted and now there is no school these days. Weeks ago. How freaking hard is it to update the calendar? The website? Many people missed these additional days off since they were voted on over the summer. Now, though, when people check the school year calendar, it appears to the thousands of parents that there is school these days. It’s complete incompetence on the part of Syphax and, again, terrible communication.

I agree. The central office seems to tolerate a culture of not even doing the bare minimum. Our school based staff are excellent, but they aren't getting any support from the Syphax.

Below is the one linked to by Google and also this is the one on the APS website under 2024-25 calendar. It does NOT include the additional PL days added. It’s the one 99% of people are going to rely upon.

I don’t think APS is above reproach. There’s a lot wrong with APS, but not with their calendar. I think certain parents make mountains out of molehills trying to bend others to their will that APS is the evilest entity that ever eviled. I don’t care about the 180 days. I’m fine with the 995 hours. And I’m perfectly fine with two extra PD days that are mandated by the state. If you don’t like it, please homeschool. You and your children deserve each other’s company exclusively. 🥰

I know several students who missed a school day last year because they were using an out of date calendar that APS still had posted. The kids were home with a babysitter because the parents thought there wasn't school. I think it was Easter Monday, but could have been a different day. There are so many changes and weird days off that they start to blend together.

Say it with me: Too many Syphax staff, not enough actual work being done. (And yes, all that paid vacay time is part of the problem.)
