Most colleges and most jobs now use AI to choose their applicants. I thought everyone knew this?

To add, NEU is ahead of that curve, also. They seem to really be using their top CS and engineering departments - I say good on them!

These schools take more than 50% of their class ED. NEU takes 35% or so ED. Granted, most ED students are going to be strong applicants.

As for NU.in, that's a first choice for many. Strong stats, money to pay. I personally think NU.in should be a top choice. Gets kids out of their bubble, real quick.

UVA takes most of their applicants ED, also.

You realize that every study abroad program is like that right? It doesn't matter if you go freshman or junior year. The courses are not the point of the trip.

DP. I would not want to send my 17/18 year old to a party first semester of college Freshmen year. I think there is a lot of bonding and adjusting that should happen that first semester on campus. I like that Freshmen are all required to live in dormitories.

I realize other people have different opinions. But, not a fan here.

They are not going to party if they stay in your home state school?

Like you said, it all depends.
Kids getting into Northeastern are independent, intelligent, motivated, and bright kids.
They are types of kids you don't have to monitor if they are learning or partying.

My junior kid at Northeastern somehow lost study abroad chance by being sort of lazy, scheduling conflict, etc.
It's the biggest regret.

If she had a chance to study abroad in the first semente vs none, she would take first semester abroad.
It's actually not a bad idea to do it when you don't have any stress.

I've been looking into NU.in as DC was accepted. It looks fabulous. You get to study for a semester at a University in a major European city https://nuin.northeastern.edu/getting-started/program-locations/

I want to signup as an adult!!! I don't know if DC will ultimately attend as they are waiting on some other top choice decisions but I feel like it would be a wonderful experience if they did. I don't know that much about the school itself as we didn't do a tour but DC has a friend who attends and loves it.

Literally NOBODY in a job interview will ever ask your DC how they got into Northeastern or any other college. They will just see the degree. I don't get all the hate and the snobbery.

NP- same situation and totally agree! Looks amazing!!!

Does early action deferral mean you are rejected? DC loves the school, but we can't afford to convert to ED2. Wondering if she should just mentally move on.

Not at all. Last year my kid was deferred EA from NEU, CWRU and UVA. Accepted RD at all.

I read that WPI's abroad programs are quarter-long cross-disciplinary research projects lead by professors, and they provide scholarships to make the trips affordable.

Good to hear. Congrats to your kid!

NUIn is first semester abroad. NULondon and NU Global Scholars (I think they both exist) are a full year off the Boston campus. Different programs.
