I would go to NEU in a minute if they would accept me, and I wouldn't care which campus. Clearly I am far from the only one who feels this way. OP and PP feel the need to raise the issue often, apparently. And yes, they most definitely are trolls. I know current students who love it there. To start a thread to spread hate, because you or yours were not accepted is immature and absurd - but clearly the school made the right decision.

Both UChicago and NEU attract an institutionally-minded student.

UChicago gets hard-nosed academic types.

NEU gets committed career-oriented types.

Obviously the schools aren@ for everyone

Are you crying because you and yours were not admitted, or are you crying because you and yours didn't have the thread go the way you wanted? There are not nearly as many haters as there are not. Sorry, not sorry. Try learning your facts before you set upon another one of these bogus threads.

Comparing UChicago & NEU? Forget UChicago, NEU is ranked way behind UVA, Vtech, UMD CP,...

You realize that every study abroad program is like that right? It doesn't matter if you go freshman or junior year. The courses are not the point of the trip.

DP. I would not want to send my 17/18 year old to a party first semester of college Freshmen year. I think there is a lot of bonding and adjusting that should happen that first semester on campus. I like that Freshmen are all required to live in dormitories.

I realize other people have different opinions. But, not a fan here.

They are not going to party if they stay in your home state school?

The NUIn situation is very different than living in a Dorm at state U. First, as long as they are 18, it is legal to drink everywhere they are going. 2nd, the courses are known to be easier (have known 5+ kids attend NUIn and they all said that, courses were much easier than traditional 4 year college classes---NEU wants the kids to succeed and come back to campus in Boston.) with easier courses and ability to travel (it's study abroad) the kids have more time to party, and fact is most are full pay so well off and can afford to party.
So yeah, very different than frat parties on Fri/Sat nights on campus at State U.

And yes, the missing out on making friends on campus fall semester is a thing. Fact is most kids who transfer in jan freshman year/spring start have a harder time making friends. Most kids think of only themselves and they've formed friend groups and are now focused more on academics and don't need to make friends. So it can be more challenging for some kids to integrate on campus.

The drinking age in college means nothing. There are plenty of fake IDs to go around in the US. Also plenty of 21 year olds to buy the booze. The worst part of big states schools down South are their fraternities and the idolization of sports. Freshman can get wrapped up in this and manage to start failing classes.

It’s not unusual for students to transfer to a different college and students come and go. You’ve watched too many movies where the freshman group of six are forever friends. I transferred after sophmore year and there were plenty of other transfers. I had friends quickly, no problem.

The posters who kids were rejected from NEU just keep coming back for more. We get it. NEU sucks. That's why your kid applied and got rejected.

Chose to apply there because of its lower ranking, meaning lesser competition.

Chose to apply despite 7% acceptance rate knowing severe competition.

There is no way in hell that I would allow my kid to attend a southern school, partly for the reasons you mention, but we don't need to go starting threads about it every month.
