UGA is a peer now.

That’s funny. UGA needs to get ahead of Michigan, Florida, and UNC before it even has a crack at UVA.

Michigan and UNC are ahead of UVA.

Athens is a little bigger. But CVille has the Downtown Mall area and Main Street has gotten much more lively connecting the University area to downtown. I also like the surroundings around UVa better - Blue Ridge Mountains are much prettier. Better hiking. Athens in general is flatter.

But, music scene is much better in Athens - and back then REM members would randomly be hanging out.

This is so true! I visited there when I was in college (2000) and ate dinner next to Michael Stipe.

Why don't people care about starting their own business instead of paying a fortune for colleg and working for someone else at a "job"?

No one should be choosing to attend a school based upon this info. However, the fact that these schools recruit together says something about which institutions the schools themselves consider to be their peers, at least in terms of the student caliber they want to attract.

Barely! and only as of this year! They are 3 and 4 on USNWR Best Colleges. UVA is no. 5. UVA was no 2 for 27 years. USNWR pulled it down because of the percentage of Pell Grants, which, as you know, UVA has no control over because Pell Grant eligibility is determined long after admission. Also, this year, even later because of the FAFSA mess.

Same league of student. Last year's UVA class had a 4.51 GPA at the 75th percentile, a 34 and/or a 780 in Quant/ and 750 verbal. lots of my kids (my own included) applied to selected IVies and UVA.

It's quite a haul from UVA. So don't go to the mall at night. end of problem.

Athens has terrible crime.

College park is bad and Charlottesville also. Sounds like no college town is super safe. Ann Arbor bad as well.

How does a joint event prove your claim?
