| My office thermometer right now says it's 72 and I'm frickin freezing. I don't have control over the heat but I'm so uncomfortable. |
Go here and treat yourself to one of these, keep it at the office and you'll never be cold again. https://www.houseofbruar.com/search/?term=cardigan&gender=female&page=2 |
We’re shaming people for keeping their houses at normal temperatures?!? I think you’re the outlier, PP. |
Same, but we live in an old cape so the upstairs/second floor is never really 68. |
| 71 but only because we have a newborn. Otherwise I’ll agree to keep at 69 but if I’m home alone I can stand it during the day as low as 67 or so |
I'm already wearing a sweater and my office hoodie. Still miserable. |
Do you have health issues? Do you exercise regularly (beyond just walking). Being cold at 72 with a sweater and hoodie sounds abnormal. |

Not if the house is poorly insulated. |

Night 67
Day/evening 68 or 69 |
PP is in an office. Even in a poorly insulted house, unless you're sitting right next to a drafty window, being cold at 72 with a sweater + hoodie is not normal. Our house is set to 64/65. But I workout 6 days a week and get my blood pumping. Hanging out on the sofa with a hoodie, socks, and basic sweatpants is totally comfortable as a short, small, female. |
If that's true then setting the thermostat higher wouldn't warm you up and would be a massive waste of resources. If you're wearing layers then the air close to your body is warm and you should perceive that warmth and be comfortable. Sounds like you might be someone who runs cold, but might also have circulation issues - are your hands and feet especially cold? Other things you might look into include a heating pad for your office chair, or space heater close to your desk area. Also, a humidifier in your office during winter - the same 72 feels very different in a low humidity environment than it does in a high humidity environment. But no, having seen this ongoing battle in offices over four decades - it doesn't make sense for the building to be made warmer than 72. The individuals who persist in feeling cold at a temperature that in spring and fall they'd never complain about have to focus on fixing what's wrong in their perception of cold via other means - humidity, space heating, layering clothing, etc. The issue here is your perception of cold. |
| My kid lowered the bedroom zone to 63 last night. I guess she was hot. 70 during the day and it rarely kicks on. |
I'm perfectly healthy. It's an individual office with no window, cinder block walls and hard floor. Cool air blows out of the vents all the time. |
