Hoping these kids are OK

From WaPo:
All the juveniles in the car were 14 to 17 years old, from the area where the crash happened, and either friends or related to one another

and
Police believe the driver did not have a license

and
The vehicle was not stolen but belongs to one person in the vehicle

It is not that baffling at all. Teens do dumb things.

I am a mom of teens. I would like to say my kids will never drink and drive but obviously, it could happen. Because teens make really stupid decisions (this is one we have been working on forever and I am really hoping they will never do this). But n
I can confidently say neither of my teens will be out driving at 6 am any day of the week. If this happened at 1 am, nobody would blink an eye. But out in a car full of kids drunk at 6 am on a Monday morning? Weird.

+1

Even if it was kids coming home late from a party the night before, seems odd that they’d be partying that hard on a school night—especially with some as young as 14.

Maybe the 14 year old was a sibling?

Sounds like several irresponsible parents are to blame here. Tragic.

The two grade school children are a tragedy. This is a learning experience.

You're scuzzy for posting this. You could be the best parent in the world, and short of locking your teenagers into their rooms, lots of kids are going to sneak out.

I really hope those kids are okay and I hope the neighbor who ran outside after hearing the crash gets the help they need. That is a lot to witness.

A lot of folks seem to think that parenting can prevent this. I don't know. I could easily have been one of these kids when I was growing up (although I did always wear my seatbelt!). But I lied to my parents a lot. I snuck out a lot. They tried and fought for me and I still acted like an idiot.

Falls Church News Press is reporting the arrested driver is 14. WTOP is reporting 17

I think PP changed the subject and was referring to the kids killed in PG County:

There was another crash this morning, a car fatally struck two children walking to school.

No, they're not. Don't be your kid's friend. Be their effing parent, and this won't happen (again and again and again).

If the driver was the little brother, maybe he was the most sober? Or had the least level of maturity and wasn't able to say no.

Teens are resilient. I also hope they are ok or will recover.

Several were ejected from the vehicle through the windows / windshield. Google what happens to crash victims experiencing this type of accident.
