14 yo DS. List includes multiple framed posters of fave albums for his room, Jordan hoodies/sweats. Nike sneakers and $ to spend on gaming stuff.
He is getting all of the above. No BIG gift this year, I offered a new monitor set up but he said his works OK for now. |
We must have the same kid lol. Adding Baggu for a surprise! |
| Not trying to be snarky but genuinely curious, when did your kids get do into brand names and how did they learn all the brands they're desiring ?My eighth grader and sixth grader are pretty brand ignorant. |
|
To the above PP my 11yo is all about Nike stuff and Jordan’s as far as shoes…
She athletic though and has no clue about all the other stuff suggested on here |
m The same way you did as a kid… you saw what other people at school were into and what was trendy |
It’s social media (instagram), but even if your kids aren’t on SM, their friends are and their friends are brand obsessed. It’s not too different than when we liked Jordache, Benetton, Esprit or whatever. As for age, I would say 7th grade is when my kid started talking about “brands.” |
which size baggu? thanks! |
Medium, the one that’s about $56! |
Yes. I cannot figure out the appeal. DD is an athlete - what if it falls over? How does she manage on the bus? We convinced her to get another brand where the straw is covered. It’s also TikTok approved…Owala? |
| Owala is also good. Definitely better if she’s on a bus routinely. Stanleys are more like a daily drinker than a sports bottle. |
That's what I was thinking. It kind of grosses me out. I'd keep it around the house, but not want to be lugging it around school. Off to check out Owala..... |
Wow that lip balm is expensive! Is it really worth it? |
Not if all of them. My 15 year old and her friends aren’t into brands at all. They have an aesthetic, but they couldn’t care less about brands. Lots of thrifting and such. Not saying one’s better than the other, but obsession with what’s trendy is not universal. |
Mine are the same way - they don't know brands, but do know the styles they want (like my 6th grader wanted cropped shirts all summer, wanted flared pants this fall, etc.). She knows her 16 year old cousin is obsessed with Lululemon, but hasn't expressed any preference for brands yet. I'm hoping it stays that way for a while. I think this is also a socioeconomic thing. We're pretty middle of the road as are the people at my kids' schools. There are a lot of wealthy people on this website, so take some of this with a grain of salt. |
yes but those are only certain styles. The teens want the Elissa necklaces or that type with the colored glass of their choice. FB and other social media sites have a ton of scammers “selling” them for $18 |
