So glad my DD in this age range is not this status obsessed. And I'm not saying that to be superior but out of relief.

You're being smug.

Nah I agree. Not because I feel superior about it but because the stuff listed is expensive AF. Which isn’t a concern for many according to this thread! I think her younger sister on the other hand might end up liking the “in” stuff when she’s a teen.

Meant to say my current teen doesn’t GAF about status and brands. The younger one might. I think it’s a personality thing vs just SES or age.

It is. I have two girls. One could not care less about brands and trends. She has asked for stuff I would never suggest on this thread because I don’t think most teens want it lmao. The younger one on the other hand wants the Stanley/Ugg/Nike Blazers/Kendra Scott type gifts. Neither kid is better than the other, they just have different personalities

Get him some Nike drifit socks. I teach 10th graders and no boy in any class I’ve ever taught would be caught dead in fuzzy socks.

Fuzzy socks do make a great camp care package gift tho...my teen boy loved them!

Np here and same. My dd isn't into the brands and I feel relief also, they are expensive! She's a thrift store girl at heart, which is not my doing, it's just her preference.

+2 Definitely a personality thing. My teen DD doesn't care about brands for the most part. There are probably only two exceptions. She asked for Uggs, which she likes because she thinks they feel very cozy and I am willing to buy them because they are more durable than other similar boots I've gotten her. She also likes Converse sneakers. Other than that I don't go clothing or jewelry shopping for her because she prefers to pick out specific styles she likes. She and her friends like to go "thrifting."

My 11yo informed me a week ago she wants LED lights, a claw machine and a Nike tech suit. .. top and bottom in gray or black. I had to Google it. They’re approx $200. She’s not getting one. I did get her a Nike gift card though and she can put cash of her own towards it if she thinks it’s worth it. I think she’ll change her mind though.

I posted the list you slammed. It's mostly from my twin nieces, whose parents do not have the money to buy this stuff regularly but who are willing to spend for one or two of these gifts. Kids see what other kids have. It's normal for teens to decide they want some of it themselves. FWIW, a Stanley cup is $45 (less on sale) and the gorjana earrings are $38, so not everything is "expensive AF" (did an adult actually post that?).

My 14 & 11yo DDs want all the skincare stuff which I got on sale at Sephora and on prime day. I just got the older one new Nikes (she needed high tops after an ankle injury) but the younger one will probably get a new pair of converse or Uggs. They are both getting Apple Watches as their main gift as they want to trek their fitness. Younger dd wants Taylor swift posters and other room decor. Older dd asked grandma for a new duvet set so that is taken care of for her.
I need to get at least older dd something else maybe clothes but unsure what she’d want as she mostly buys things at thrift stores or dpop now. She likes Madewell and Uniqlo so I’ll probably just go there.
Ds 9 is getting a lot of sports gear since that’s his thing. He is also getting a silent basketball and a Fitbit (since Apple Watches aren’t allowed in his grade). His big gift is tickets to see the Lakers.
