Saturday - Thousands expected to attend pro-Palestine march in DC for ceasefire in Israel-Hamas war

Adding that this mob is in favor of a group trying to kill my family, with a bunch of useful idiots who think they're calling for peace. Pretty intimidating.

See the history of the originally Soviet phrase "useful idiot" here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Useful_idiot

If you join these protests thinking they are serving a humanitarian purpose, you're being a "useful idiot" for Hamas, and by extension for Iran and Putin.

This is a fair point.

Also understand that mass protests are the only thing known to slowly turn public opinion.

Well but what are you turning it to? When you get to this protest, the frenzied yelling might include "ceasefire now", however misguided that may be. But it will also include "from the river to the sea," and "glory to our martyrs" and "long live the Intifada," all of which are about "valorizing " the killing of Jews.

My favorite chant, from London 20 years ago, was "Death, death to Israel, [crowd repeats] I will smash you with my shoe [mob repeats] I will smash you with my shoe." Good company you're keeping.

Yes I wonder how public opinion is going to turn when they see masses, mostly brown minorities, shouting for the death of Israel.

Your college student should research the organizations sponsoring the event and the speakers to assess whether the message is actually “ceasefire.”

You should stop being a fear monger.

Protesting is a right of passage for college students (Vietnam, divestment from South Africa, $ for AIDS, Take Back the Night).

It’s good for kids to see there is a world beyond themselves.

Sure! Sounds like a fun learning activity…. joining the wave of anti semitism !

Sure, you can argue that it's not. You sound just like Southerners when they talk about "States' Rights."

It is not a dog whistle in that an audience has to understand and appreciate the message in the dog whistle. In this case, people are telling you that “destroy Jews” or “kill all Israelis” or whatever you think it means is not what they hear - they dont hear the dog whistle. You can think they are misguided. I guess you can disbelieve them. But if you listen to people about what they are saying rather than what you assume they are saying, we will get further.

I appreciate that some probably do say this to mean “exterminate all Jews”. I also accept that most Israelis who voted for Likud do not want to murder all Palestinians (they use the phrase too).

If you can understand that the Arab Americans and the college kids marching are not saying what you fear they are, we might be able to get to a better place.

“stand back and stand by”. That was a dog whistle too. By your reasoning trump could have been saying something innocuous like “stand back” “I’ll talk to you proud boys later and explain that violence is not the answer” lol!

It’s not open for interpretation “from the river to the sea” is a call to exterminate the Jews. Wake up people.

and finding out that ANSWER is a Communist front is also a rite of passage

Sadly, this won't put them off. Our dumb kids are all pro-Marxist. What a world.

I wouldn't care if ANSWER was merely "pro-Marxist". They're as "anti-colonial imperialist" as Putin's Russia.

So what’s your interpretation when Israelis say that?

Any cease-fire request that is not paired with a request that all hostages ve freed is morally bankrupt.

I'll bite. As a two-state supporter, I think they are wrong. There is a shameful right wing in Israeli politics as well as a very loud howl of liberal protest against them.

The reason for support for this right wing is the constant threat of terrorism. That's the practical effect of terrorism in practice right there.

You should see Hamas as accellerationist. They perpetrated their brutal massacre on 10/7 just as more moderate voices looked like they could gain some ground. Because they don't want peace. They want the biggest conflagration possible.

Our world includes a lot of different groups trying to burn it all down so they can remake it the way they want. Yes, some of them are Jews, but really, in the Middle East most of them are Iran-backed terrorist groups hurtling us all toward their nihilistic end times bs.

Where do protestors stay? Protest ends at 4 then they March to white house. Will they stay in dc and be out tonight around town or do most go back? They are brining in 100 buses I read.

1. Free the hostages now

2. Free Palestine from Hamas

3. Ceasefire now; Israelis & Palestinians join together for a peaceful future

Anything short of this is merely a one-sided exercise in futility.

Until January 6th, protestors usually exited the city after their events. But remember that someone funded the January 6th crowd to stay in DC hotels and continue to wave flags and yell in DC neighborhoods.

Let's see how deep these extremists' pockets are. I suppose Arab countries could possibly be paying the tab for relatively expensive hotels to keep the crowds yelling at all of us long into the night.

Wtop said something about the event ending at 9pm.
