I'd argue Einstein has a better environment in some ways because it's smaller than the other two. It has plenty of AP level science, math and tech for all but the really advanced kids. |
Is the AP-level science you're referencing the IB science classes listed here? https://docs.google.com/document/d/1D4DTO5FaM8pcZoRLvlyOIqLuLoy0hL_ZrgxeRNcIpfg/edit?usp%253Dsharing%26amp;sa%3DD%26amp;source%3Deditors%26amp;ust%3D1699037006502563%26amp;usg%3DAOvVaw08yXqYvTkgJ2NtKbAGGXxS&sa=D&source=docs&ust=1699037006556790&usg=AOvVaw0Ul3yx37Oqfxb3AzoPKNQy
They don't offer AP Physics as an option for freshmen, for example, while that seems to be an option at Blair, Wheaton, and Northwood. They also have a limited number of CompSci classes, and no engineering classes. |
No, there are plenty of houses in Einstein for a million or more.... good try. |
This really isn’t true. If your child went to, or could have gone, to TPMS, the math and science offerings at Einstein, and the lack of a cohort there, are strong reasons not to choose it for OP’s child. Try for Wheaton or Blair or Poolesville or RM. |
They have a 2-year IB Physics sequence. No, it’s not for freshmen, which seems right to me. It’s true that they don’t have engineering classes. If that’s an important criterion then choose elsewhere I guess. My understanding for applicants to engineering in college is that math and science preparation are more important than high school engineering classes. |
I have one kid at Einstein and one kid at Wheaton and Wheaton is far superior at STEM. Einstein is better at things like English and history. My kid at Wheaton barely writes at all. My kid at Einstein wrote much more. However, his math education was terrible. |
Our math teacher at Einstein is one of the best we've had. Its hit or miss at any school with what teachers you get. |
That’s good to hear. My DD graduated a couple years ago and didn’t have a single good math or science teacher. Loads of excellent history and English and art teachers though! |
My Wheaton senior has had fantastic English and History teachers. |
I hear about the bad math teachers at other schools. It is just pure luck of who you are assigned. One class my kid has a great teacher but same class a friend has another teacher that sounds terrible. This is at every school. |
And any particular teacher may hit it off better with any particular student. So hard to tell. |
If you are referring to Woodside Park, it has been zoned to Einstein for at least 30 years. |
What sort of writing assignments has she had throughout the four years? What sort of teacher feedback did she get on her writing? |
My kid at Einstein got stuck with a terrible math teacher for a year and a half. She would have had him for Calculus senior year as well, but he went MIA for months and the kids literally did not have a teacher for months and were expected to teach themselves calculus from online modules. Her math education at Einstein was a disaster. |
I don't know the ins and outs of the writing assignments, but I know they are rigorous in spec and grading from talking to my kid. Certainly last year (AP Lang) and this year (AP Lit). Both very dynamic teachers, both focused on writing. Lots of magnet kids expecting to coast and not so! Good feedback. Passionate about writing and literature. I would say the same about 9th/10th grade teachers as well in terms of passion. They were brand or relatively new when my kid had them, so if your kid is older than mine, those teachers were likely not around. To contrast, my Blair kid had pretty poor English teachers 9th and 10th. Good Lang for 11th. Then one great and one terrible for Lit in 12th (split semesters). Fortunately, had the great one leading up to AP exam. We are thrilled that the quality of English has been good across the board and fantastic the last 2 years at Wheaton. |
