I don't know the ins and outs of the writing assignments,  but I know they are rigorous in spec and grading from talking to my kid. Certainly last year (AP Lang) and this year (AP Lit). Both very dynamic teachers, both focused on writing.  Lots of magnet kids expecting to coast and not so! Good feedback.  Passionate about writing and literature.  I would say the same about 9th/10th grade teachers as well in terms of passion.  They were brand or relatively new when my kid had them, so if your kid is older than mine, those teachers were likely not around.

To contrast, my Blair kid had pretty poor English teachers 9th and 10th. Good Lang for 11th. Then one great and one terrible for Lit in 12th (split semesters). Fortunately,  had the great one leading up to AP exam.
