Pretty common until at least 2010 when I moved from the neighborhood. I had early flights frequently 2007-2010 and would see their night ending as I was heading to the airport many times. |
Everytime I see this thread, I think it's a Game of Thrones post. The white walkers are back and winter is coming ... |
DEFUND THE POLICE ! |
The police are more likely to beat them or patronize them than help them. Give them a universal basic income, mental health / addiction services if needed, and you might just take away their "need" for that line of work. Of course if it's what they choose to do without coercion then who cares? |
Go girl. Get that fentanyl. |
I used to work at the Brickskellar (mid-august) and would unwisely ride my bike back home to Capitol Hill after work, at two or three in the morning. I was in my late teens/early twenties. I remember all the prostitutes around that area. But it was closer to the White House (the other side of Massachusetts Ave). |

Nobody with a better option would ever choose sex work voluntarily. |
Nobody with a better option would choose most jobs voluntarily. Welcome to our capitalist dream world. |
Alternatives to capitalism have not produced (good) dream worlds, either. Only nightmares. |
When I was a younger I lived in Logan Circle. This was the norm and the nearby thoroughfares (16th, 15th, 14th, etc) were boarded up dumps from burn baby burn. It was a seedy ghostland. My sibling and I pretty much huddled at the bus stop to get to school, with only doorway winos for company. Picturesque.
That's why I questioned all the screedy anti gentrification dc liberals who supported the riots/rioters (not talking about peaceful protests; talking about the rampage of professional protestors or thieves) in 2020 and didn't realize this is precisely what they were asking for. Who is better off now? Anyone? You can support equity without meaning a trashy/trashed city for all. |
It's a great job market right now, so no one should have to do sex work, unless they are forced into it (which then suggests that it should be an even greater law enforcement focus). |
It was a stunt, but one of the few good things that the late mayor-for-life did was one night to have MPD herd a number of prostitutes across the 14th Street bridge into Virginia. Barry said that's where a lot of the johns lived so he was moving the illicit business to another jurisdiction. It would have been hilarious to see the prostitutes staggering across the bridge in their oversized heels, trailed by slow moving DC police cruisers. Maybe Bowser can push out today's sex workers on e-bikes. ![]() |
Some people are incapable of holding jobs because they are addicts. |
The government should supply free drugs so these people can be employed. |
