| My DC is a senior, but I remember at the parent conference in the fall of 9th grade the advisor started by saying, “Don’t be concerned, we see this a lot and are not counseling her out - yet.” This is at a big3 private. Kid had all Cs and low Bs, but we had no idea! |
🔥🔥🔥 This is fine 🔥🔥🔥 |

Just got another teacher email that my child got a 75% on a test, is this normal after being an outstanding student in MS?
|
PP I think your child sounds she has a good positive attitude. I get what you are saying but your posts make me think she's a great person. |
Some teachers grade really harshly at the beginning of 9th to make a point. |
Thank you for saying that, and it’s good for me to keep top of mind. She is a very sweet, kind, good person. |
Why??? Isn’t this when it starts to matter? |
I hear you … DS was an outstanding student in MS as well and got a failing grade on his first math test. He was placed into a very advanced math class for a freshman so we are now looking to pull him back into an easier class. Do you have that option for your child ? |
It F you are from the other thread you better schedule a meeting with the school. |
I feel like teachers who do that wouldn’t be reaching out to the parents, though. |

| Yes, so how did all of these kids fare in the end? |
Bumping this with a question. If your child is not socially accepted and the happiness is decreasing, then do you leave? How do you know what other school/place would be better? |
| I'm sorry, but we as parents should know better in this day and age. So many parents seem to be chasing the "status" of a rigorous school vs what school best suits their child. It is a shame to hear about all these unhappy children who are struggling in school with hours of homework and mediocre grades. Look at your school's matriculation to colleges, how many kids go to truly tippy top colleges? Everyone thinks their child will be in that top 10-20% who attend top 20 colleges, but unfortunately most are not. The majority of students attend schools that they could have gotten into from other schools in our area. Kids at different schools are getting into similar schools these days. You don't have to attend a Big 3 in order to get into an Ivy, and in some circumstances kids have an easier time getting into a top college from easier/less stressful schools. |
| So our school that is often discussed is so far not doing well in admissions. This in contrast to a school everyone on DCUM makes fun of that seems to be getting everyone in so far. If I could do it again, I would choose another school. You need to have rigor for college but rigor at our school means you are doomed to have a B on your report card. Rigor at the joke school means straight As with an honors tag. Same result or better from the joke school and better quality of life. |
