Oh, don’t worry. The people running Fairfax County want to turn most of the nicer areas into slums as soon as they can, without waiting decades. Except the Langley/Great Falls area. It always gets a pass, just like parts of Bethesda and Potomac. |
Ah yes, the well-known former "luxury" garden apartments in Wheaton, Glenmont, Aspen Hill, Gaithersburg, Montgomery Village... |

MoCo:
Step 1: import a whole bunch of poverty and tons of low skilled, low education immigrants here illegally. Step 2: Whine about 'Y iZ sO muCh InCOme Inequality!!??' Common sense voters in MoCo do not have. |
Have you thought about moving? I really think you'd be happier living somewhere else. |
You can’t force a developer to build more. The projects have to make financial sense. Unless Montgomery County has land they want to provide free, how do you propose these projects get off the ground? Rent control is not the answer. NYC has rent control and has some of the highest costs in the country. Very little rental housing is being built. The Condos being built are not affected by rent control. https://www.baltimoresun.com/opinion/readers-respond/bs-ed-rr-rent-control-baltimore-letter-20230707-yf2kvo3x5jgari4xrrm7oq4rku-story.html https://www.brookings.edu/articles/what-does-economic-evidence-tell-us-about-the-effects-of-rent-control/ https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2023/03/15/why-rent-control-wont-solve-the-issue-of-high-rents-in-the-us.html https://www.brookings.edu/articles/making-apartments-more-affordable-starts-with-understanding-the-costs-of-building-them/ |
Rent control is not the answer. There is not one single answer. Rent control is one of the answers. |
Rent control is not the answer, and has not been the answer anywhere as multiple studies have confirmed. MoCo needs to focus on turning the space along the Pike, particularly north of Rockvile, into apartments, condos, townhouses. Focusing on Bethesda and SS is a waste as folks who live there are focused on DC. |
County leadership is saying that. Since they passed the racial equity law, we strive to ensure race does not predict outcome and as long as there are disparities in any measure, we are failing. |
Every word in your post is factually incorrect, including "and" and "the". |
Sure you can. Vacancy taxes and land value taxes are two ways to force developers to put more units on the market. More aggressively, eminent domain so the county can seize land and build housing itself. |
Ahhhh, nothing better to beautify up a place than communist style bloc housing. |
Yes, the communists were (are?) well known for using market incentives to encourage some actions and discourage other actions by owners of private property. Also, whatever "communist style bloc housing" is, here's one thing it isn't: five-over-ones. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5-over-1 Some people seem to think all multi-family housing is communist by definition. I just don't get it. |
Another approach is simply to cease supporting overly generous social services, which serve only to attract more needy individuals and families. |
Despite your view, it is the truth. |
Government caused MoCo’s issues, and you expect government to step in and fix them? Delusional. |
