Oppenheimer - thoughts?

I found it, frankly, tedious and hard to follow and I had trouble understanding the dialogue. By Hour Three I felt like I was losing it. Just too much movie.

It was a very complex project though.

But it didn’t feel long at all, fast moving storyline, lots to think about, interesting characters. I’d say worth seeing in a theater bc you’re forced to get off your phone and pay attention and it’s a movie you don’t want to just half watch

+1

I'm totally depressed that some of you would skip it for yourself or your teens just because of some boobs. Half the planet has boobs, my god who cares.

Oh my goodness 100%
It’s silly Americans are still so embarrassed and uncomfortable by nudity. I took my daughters to see it. They have boobs, I have boobs. They know about sex. Kids see much much worse these days. Tastefully and realistically done, which I appreciated.

I will take my kids anyway, but the issue wasn’t the boobs. It was the motion on the chair that stood out.

IMO, it’s meant to feel out of place because it was one of his big flaws.

Completely unnecessary nudity scenes IMO. And I am not a prude or conservative.

I disagree. The nudity was part of the communism ethos.

People around me were using phones. I nearly assaulted one of them

The sex scenes were silly and looked like something out of a porn. Completely unnecessary and distracted from the plot.

??? Communist ethos?? Lol.

I saw it as an accurate feeling of a security clearance hearing, where you are metaphorically stripped naked and your secrets exposed, in his case to his wife. It was actually one of the more powerful scene in the movie. Having been through a security clearance lifestyles poly, it was a raw and accurate scene.

Husband liked it, I didn’t. Too much on the hearings, too much back and forth on timeline. Movie also did not show there were families living where Los Alamos was built. It wasn’t empty land.

Also I don’t believe the scientists had any moral dilemma while creating the bomb. I think they were more interested in seeing if their theories could work. Oppenheimer didn’t voice concerns until the Manhattan Project was completed.

Very unnecessary to have those in the movie. It was too much.

+1, I would have loved to see more about the science or Oppenheimer as a person, instead we got lots of boring hearings. And no movie should ever be 3 hours long (except for maybe Lord of the Rings).

Agree - the hearings were boring and could have been cut back by a LOT.

I loved it, as did my 17-year old son. The 3 hours went really fast. At one point I thought “this should have ended with the bomb being used”, but ultimately enjoyed and appreciated the last part.

I loved it, except the sex scenes that seemed too crude, slapped on, and didn’t advance the movie.

Reading that spiritually and culturally important Sanskrit text in that moment is quite insensitive, BTW!!! No wonder some Hindus were shocked. And that particular scene was totally unrealistic, let’s just leavebit at that.

There were better ways of showing Oppenheimer had relations with several women.

I thought the readers of this forum were smart.

Why is everyone blathering on about the sex scene? It’s an adult film and it was quite short. I don’t see how this ruined it for anyone.
