I hear where you are coming from, and I am not a fan of the breeds, but reaching across a fence is dangerous. Dogs are super territorial. It's not a defect; it's their instinct.

So it's okay for dogs to bite the Amazon delivery driver when he comes onto someone's property to deliver a package? Because it is their instinct?

I will reiterate my opinion -- dogs should not bite a non-threatening person who comes onto their property. Period. Barking is fine, biting is not.

Barking is a warning. The old lady ignored it. Not a smart move.

Not all of us know how to handle your nasty dog, nor should be expected to. Control your animals. Keep them inside if necessary.

dog was on their property. Neighbor ignored the warning and payed the price.

+1

Unfortunately, this is true.

Why should OP apologize? The neighbor reached over a fence to pet a dog that was barking. The neighbor is an idiot. If a dog is barking at you, it's telling you to get away.

Because she's sorry that it happened? I agree, the woman should not have reached her hand over, and it is her own fault this happened. But if it were me and it were my dog, I'd still feel sorry that this happened to my elderly neighbor. I'd have no problem apologizing and asking her to please not pet my dog over the fence again.

(Replace dog with OP; they (the victim) reached over the fence, so I (the dog/owner) ran and attacked them with a sharp item causing injury.)

If you have a dog, keep them far away from any fence near the public. Owners say, we can’t build a fence that high! Then don’t let your dog near said fence!!!
