I am also not religious, but I have two degrees in Science and everything I have been taught makes me comfortable with the concept that gender is an assigned quality. It is not something that you can change.

I also don't want MCPS teaching my elementary school aged kid that he can change his gender. That is simply not true. He can wear dresses and enjoy 'girly' activities. But, he is a boy doing that.

MCPS has gone too far with this. I hope this lawsuit gains some traction and I hope the protesters get their voices heard.

MCPS has gone too far. Before this discussion, I did not even know that MCPS was dancing in tune of LGBTQ lobby. It seems MCPS does not care about mental health of non-LGBTQ kids.

Voters need to vote out Harris. She seems to simply dismiss anyone not supporting LGBTQ political agenda.

I agree. Most voters don't pay attention to the school board but maybe these decisions by the board will force more to pay attention.

If voters don't vote out people like Harris then they deserve situation where institution is going to be used to indoctrinate kids.

Whoever suggested LGBTQ lobby to target elementary school kids for indoctrination did a poor job. Awareness simply went manifold here. I did not even know that this was going on.

Keep this LGBTQ stuff for middle and high school. Mental health of young kids are important. 5 year is not the age to discuss this. It's just insane.

Separation of Church and State. Can't let a religion dictate what is taught in public schools.

This is not a separation of church and state issue -- that would apply if children were being required to take part in religious ceremonies for example. The BOE has wide leeway in deciding what is or isn't in the school curriculum, and presumably that decision is made by listening to the needs of parents.

The fact that they would not allow Ethiopian immigrant children to quietly read books in the library while LGBTQ books are discussed reminds me of the AIDS walkers won't allow Kramer to walk without wearing an AIDS ribbon.

MCPS needs to prevail here. Not only because it is the right and moral thing, but it will open up a Pandora’s box. Next science teachers won’t be able to teach evolution because it’s against someone’s belief. Then the talent pool teaching your children will shrink immediately. Think wisely to those who want an opt out. You will change the the face of education for the worse in this county.

Imagine being a conservative and choosing to live in Montgomery County then complaining that the extremely accepting and liberal county you chose to live in is accepting of LGBTQ people. This is even worse for conservative immigrants from other countries who are probably living here because they're scared of being discriminated against by people in conservative states so they move to a liberal place and think they can discriminate against trans or gay people here. I hear VA has some new transphobic school rules. Maybe that's a more appropriate place for you.

Not so. This is a stretch.

Um, no. When MCPS’ policy is “all are welcome”, there is no compromise with a group whose argument is “except these people.” This isn’t a philosophical discussion. There are actual children with 2 mommies or 2 daddies or who are/know someone transgendered. Kids talk to each other. They tell about their families and draw pictures. Muslim families thinking they can hide the existence of the LGBTQ community by having their kids leave the room when a book is read is ridiculous, and only makes their kid a target. If you don’t want your kids exposed to the general population, then don’t send them to public school.

Families that don't celebrate birthdays or holidays can opt out of certain things. If it's allowed for some the opportunity to opt out should be allowed for all.

Some of us conservatives have actually been living in MoCo for a long time...

She's welcome to send her kids to a private school or home school.

Imagine if everyone who is against this does that. What would happen to the MCPS budget? Think again.

Nothing happens. People who send their kids to private school still pay taxes.

It's actually a win-win situation for MCPS when families go private. They get money, and have fewer students.

No they don't get the money idiot. The budget is 100% determined by enrollment. Less students means less money/staff.

And you continue to live here. Congrats on continuing to live in a county where 80 out of every 100 people voted for Biden. Think about it like this. If you're in a store and there's 30 people there with you, you're probably the only conservative there. Everyone else is a Democrat and they're going to continue voting for the "woke" people that push LGBT acceptance in schools. So congratulations on continuing to live here I guess.

Stop with the divisiveness. Maybe you could think about it like this. If the Conservative poster is in a store with 30 other people, it doesn’t matter if any of them are Conservative, Liberal, or even Moderate (if such a creature still exists). The only relevant factor is that there are 31 people who have a common interest in buying whatever the store is selling.

Actually, we ALL pay taxes to support MCPS. Even people who don’t have kids.

MCPS constantly keeps asking for more money. Regardless of enrollment.

You don't understand. The budget is determined by the enrollment numbers. If 10,000 students don't enroll that they had expected, their budget gets slashed.
