What are middle school girls wearing?

From what I can see, except for the crop tops, it’s pretty much the same as 5th grade. I don’t see a lot of dresses, but lots of baggy flannel pj pants and sweatshirts. Just have her wear what is comfortable.

The bolded is not true. There are many mean kids with mean parents out there eager to laugh at others for nonsense reasons.
I’ve seen girls in tiny shorts and tops as if there were walking on a beach.

Or, you know, walking to/from school in DC heat.

Didn’t read the other replies, but my DD likes PacSun, American Eagle, Hollister, Lulu, with stuff from Target or discount stores (TJ Maxx etc) mixed in. Converse and Crocs for shoes. Has a clothing budget she needs to stick to (most of her friends do as well)- if she wants to spend beyond what is in the budget, she asks for the items as holiday or bday gift, or earns the $ via chores. Lots of short shorts, cropped tees etc but also a ton of sportswear (leggings and exercise tops etc). Lots of pullover hoodies in the winter. UMC suburban school and DD dresses pretty averagely, from what I can tell.

Private school girls are even worse offenders of the labels. In fact, they drive the trends

My daughters attend a private Catholic school. TAG days (where they pay a small amount for free dress to fundraise for a charity) are a killer! My younger daughter whines that she has nothing to wear and my older daughter wears her 2.5" Hottie Hots along with the rest of the middle school girls! Ugh. Please, just stick to uniforms EVERY DAY!

My kids hate the look and make fun of the kids who do this

Teach your kids not to make fun of people. That’s class.

I assure you kids who wear pajama pants make fun of plenty of kids

Sounds like 2006 came to town. Who is wearing Uggs?

I love this. The whole teen dress code appears to be a mockery of moms, from the lululemon athleisure-wear to the croc garden clogs to the Uggs (which seemed original back in 2006) to the throwback Nirvana shorts and plaid flannels. I don’t give a hoot about teen fashion, but really. What happened to teen fashion?

Me AND my in style teen daughter.

My high schooler was desperate for Uggs last school year. I went to a half dozen stores and they were all sold out in her size. I finally found a pair online at a significant premium. So apparently lots of people are wearing Uggs.

To the OP, Uggs are a great comfortable option.

I think this is funny, too. I'm like, "you know we were wearing those Nirvana shirts first." And DC's friend, wearing the Nirvana shirt was like, "who's Nirvana?"

I was in an Altar'd State once, and a teenage girl was very excited over an AC/DC tshirt. Her mom asked if she even knows who they are and she didn't. But she desperately wanted the shirt. I find that very odd.

Innocent mom asks what her soecial needs tween who loves dresses should wear to middle school, and all the mean moms come out. I have a young teen and a tween and know all these trends. They are what they are - skimpy, unflattering, even cringe. But im not able to influence much aside from not shelling out continuously for spandex “assleisure.” Op, check out Aerie for more reasonable spandex, give her your old college sweatshirts and your husband’s tees (the more Dad style the better), buy some crocs and plain white sneakers and call it a day. She can wear this uniform on repeat.

My DD is quirky. All of her clothes come from Hot Topic with a few plain tees and shorts from Aerie and American Eagle. Band t shirts, enormous hoodies, and some black or white jean shorts. Crocs or Nikes (cheap ones, she doesn’t care but just needs something for PE). She would never wear white AF1s.

I'd buy her some Lululemon shorts, a fun crew neck sweatshirt, a zip hoodie, some basic tees and some white sneakers. She will be good!!
She can then decide what style she wants.
