DD is overweight - what to do?

It was the norm for kids to get hungry between meals in the 60's and 70's and I'm sure for thousands of years prior.

It meant you were getting close to time for the next meal.

Ok but that ship has sailed. We don’t live in that world anymore. Unless your kid doesn’t actually want the snacks, most kids get offered them or have access to them through various sources daily. Kids are living among a cornucopia of processed snack foods.

Given this, your daughter who will likely grow two inches in the next year, is on track to be just fine? What is her estimate height going to be at full height / are you or your husband tall? I would just focus on teaching healthy eating habits, introduce fruits or vegetables or make fun smoothies (don’t use yogurt or high sugar bases!)… stuff like that. Do you workout? Do yoga? Pilates? Have her join you. Between ages 10-12 is a good time to catch them when they are still curious before the eye rolling and everything you say and everything you do is stupid phase kicks in.

Do you have kids? They're not mini-adults, they're supposed to be smaller. Kids don't attain their adult weight until they're adults - or at least, they aren't supposed to.

All my kids had a puggy period pre puberty.

Lots of getting chunky then growing, getting chunky then growing

OP's kid is actually (just barely) obese according to the calculator I just used. Please stop with this, "Oh they get pudgy just before puberty." She is more than pudgy. My 11 year old is the same height and weighs 80 pounds.

Your DD is tall and must have a bigger constitution. My DD is one year younger and 52.5 inches and 60 lbs. I believe she is 50% in both height and weight. Most of my DD’s classmates are similar though there are a couple quite a bit taller and bugger built. None seem overweight to me. I can’t imagine growing 6 inches and almost doubling her weight in 1 year…

Has your DD started going through puberty?
