Same thing happened to my child, this school without walls is a complete joke…. No wonder many of the kids decline admission when they are accepted…. The admissions stafff are unholy combination of incompetent and corrupt

What were the GPAs of the kids whose interviews were rescinded?

My word. You must mean business. I bet he takes a day off to avoid you.

It is that kind of attitude why nothing ever changes in DC and the public school system is so poorly regarded. Fairfax parents didn’t like the new admissions policy at Thomas Jefferson and filed lawsuits immediately.

They have some legitimate concerns and still have pretty much lost. Going against a school system is not a cake walk. You would be going against DCPS. This blog doesn't have the organizing chops or the will for a fight with DCPS and allies. Only when private schools become out of reach will someone flip the switch. To my knowledge, DC has the highest percentage of kids in private schools in the country. So maybe we are close to the tipping point..

Just wondering what the GPA cut-off is this year.

The school does not tell you what is the GPA cutoff -----guessing that they make a lot of errors for the charter school / private school kids who they have to convert scores

I think you are trolling, what did the initial email you received say and what was the date/time?

No doubt that high income DC parents (unlike many high income suburban parents) would rather send their kids to private schools or flee to the suburbs by middle school. It is this inertia to fight for change that leads to this pervasive cycle of mediocrity: most top performing students do not go to high school at DCPS or charters. AND DCPS and charters do not attract or retain top teachers or administrators.

I know the interviews are March 4th and March 11th, but we didnt get an email today telling us which one

Yeah, we did. Assuming they are just sending late today or missing their own deadline

We got the initial email but still waiting for the follow-up date/time. Assuming they are sending that individually to each applicant so it is probably taking longer than they anticipated.

Although your student met the minimum GPA requirement of a 3.0 at the end of the last school year to be considered for admissions to SWW, as we advanced through the interview process his/her GPA scored below our 2023 bar for an interview, largely due to an exceptionally large applicant pool. As your child will not be continuing with our process, we wanted you to have this information as early as possible so you may consider some of the other great high school opportunities in DCPS.
Students did a fantastic job last school year and should be praised for their hard work.
We appreciate your consideration in School Without Walls and wish you the best during this admission season.
Thank you,
School Without Walls Administration

Warmly,
N. Hardge

Warmly? Thanks N. Hardge!

According to Walls, the GPA cut-off last year was 3.73.

My child with a 4.3 at BASIS received an initial email but hasn’t received a second one with an interview time.

We also got an initial interview email but no follow up yet, even though they said we’d hear by 2/28….

You must have an older kid. Highest GPA for an 8th grader would be 4.0.

No. My 8th grader has a 98 average at BASIS, so I’m reasonably confident she meets this year’s GPA cutoff. Since we don’t have a second email yet I surmise it’s because SWW has not yet notified all qualified candidates of their interview time.

yes, but you can't have a 4.3 in middle school. You can have a 98 but that would be a 4.0.

You understand that a 98 is not 4.3, right?

Confirmed with admin that emails with date/time for interviews will be going out this afternoon.
