Really? I love going to downtown Bethesda. There are some great shops and cafes and the farmers market is fun.

Rather go to Mosaic, 10 minutes from McLean and more to offer

Mosaic is way too far. No charm whatsoever. That is not mclean!

No, but if you live in McLean you end up going to Tyson’s a lot.

Moving around Bethesda isn't exactly quick either. Too many small roads with frequent lights or stop signs

Makes more sense to compare Tysons and Montgomery Mall both of which are on the outskirts. Obviously Tysons is better. Rarely do people from VA crossover to MD for shopping

Mall culture is dying. Tyson’s isn’t the draw it used to be. Meanwhile, Bethesda row stays packed and you can quickly drive to so many charming shopping areas, farmers markets and parks. More private school options should you need/want something besides public. Bethesda and moco in general are prettier than McLean/ Fairfax if that matters to you. No one who can afford to live in either of these areas should be basing their decision on in state tuition at uva when clearly they can afford out of state tuition. Problem solved.

Why would anyone cross either way for shopping?

Bethesda and MoCo in general peaked decades ago.

Bethesda Row is packed because it's probably the only decent shopping area in Bethesda. Even the it's relatively limited in size. Friends who come to visit Bethesda are surprised by how run down many areas are despite it supposedly being one of the most affluent areas in Maryland.

Lol where is it “run down” in downtown Bethesda? Even the older part of downtown Bethesda has become fantastic. Better shops and restaurants than Bethesda Row

What did they think was "run down"? Which of the Joe Malone, tea, kitchen, or other shops? And where do your friends live, the Ile de France?

Don't be in denial. Half of the Bethesda houses look like they should be teardown lots if they haven't already been replaced recently.

This is hilariously wrong. It’s a more accurate description of Arlington. Bethesda real estate isn’t great but there are many beautiful houses that are actually walkable to places that you’d want to go especially in neighborhoods like edgemoor.

Tysons malls are as busy as they have ever been. It is booming in fact!

I was there yesterday and I could barely walk through. Wall to wall traffic. If it's dying it's dying of too much traffic. Maryland people wouldn't know - they are still stuck on Elm street or Willow lane on their intelligently built one-lane roads. God I have PTSD from living in Bethesda and trying to get anywhere

Terrible take, you just picked the single most expensive Bethesda neighborhood in Edgemoor. There are plenty of comparable neighborhoods are in McLean. Sure there are "many" nice houses in Bethesda, but much of it is in the 1 millionish or less teardown range.
