Mall culture is dying. Tyson’s isn’t the draw it used to be. Meanwhile, Bethesda row stays packed and you can quickly drive to so many charming shopping areas, farmers markets and parks. More private school options should you need/want something besides public. Bethesda and moco in general are prettier than McLean/ Fairfax if that matters to you. No one who can afford to live in either of these areas should be basing their decision on in state tuition at uva when clearly they can afford out of state tuition. Problem solved.
Bethesda Row is packed because it's probably the only decent shopping area in Bethesda. Even the it's relatively limited in size. Friends who come to visit Bethesda are surprised by how run down many areas are despite it supposedly being one of the most affluent areas in Maryland.
What did they think was "run down"? Which of the Joe Malone, tea, kitchen, or other shops? And where do your friends live, the Ile de France?
