I’m really more of a Jason Isbell person myself, though.

Was coming here to say Jason Isbell.

I find that mixing it up with country and some pop thrown in make it more palatable for the non-country folks.

Sweet Home Alabama – Lynyrd Skynyrd

Life Is a Highway – Rascal Flatts

Run- George Strait

Speed- Montgomery Gentry

Bless the Broken Road – Rascal Flatts

On the Road Again- Willie Nelson

I've Been Everywhere- Johnny Cash

Good Vibrations- The Beach Boys

Willow -Taylor Swift-

John Deere Green- Joe Diffy

Check Yes or No- George Strait

Life is a Highway is a Chris Ledoux cover. He might actually fit the bill for what OP wants. I like his more cowboy stuff, but he has some hits like Even Cowboys Like a Little Bit of Rock N Roll. 8 Second Ride is another pump up song.

Jason Isbell was great before he decided he had a Ph.D. in politics on Twitter. Ugh. He also is a downer. But Southeastern is still on my playlist. So good.

But “I don’t Want to Die in a Super 8 Motel” seems to be the vibe OP likes.

Anonymous wrote:OP Here. Thanks everyone. The guy is my buddy and he's not a flag waving anti-country person, so I was probably wrong to say that he "refuses" to like country. Just a bit stubborn. We are doing on a road trip and I want to make a playlist of some songs that I think he might like. I am not going to go with Hank Williams Sr., Willie Nelson, or stuff like that. I'm looking for upbeat/fun/party type songs that, if I like, I think he'll like. There are some fantastic suggestions on this thread and I added about 5 of them to my list so far, but I haven't got through them yet. There's a lot to listen to. I typically don't like Luke Bryan, Keith Urban, Blake Shelton, and this group of people but I did find one or two that were suggested with potential. Like I said in an earlier post...I am not a country fan but I listen a bit when others are playing it. Some songs are "catchy". So I'm not looking for amazing, heartfelt lyrics. I'm looking for upbeat, road trip music that is considered country so I can show my buddy that some country songs are pretty good. Appreciate all the suggestions.

NP here, my husband doesn’t like country music and reading through all the comments there are very few songs listed that he would enjoy. He finds the lyrics pandering and lacking sophistication and the music is basic four on the floor. At this point I can pick out the songs that will hurt his brain and most of the songs people listed are those (fancy like, beer for my horses, etc). He especially hates songs that are just “listing things” e.g. Love Your Love the Most.

Figure out why your friend doesn’t like country and we can give better suggestions.
Here are the country artists he’ll listen to:

Kacey Musgraves (all)
Tyler Childers
Willie Nelson
Callin Baton Rouge and other Garth
Johnny Cash
Margo Price
Some Maren Morris
