I’m really more of a Jason Isbell person myself, though.

Was coming here to say Jason Isbell.

Jason Isbell was great before he decided he had a Ph.D. in politics on Twitter. Ugh. He also is a downer. But Southeastern is still on my playlist. So good.

But “I don’t Want to Die in a Super 8 Motel” seems to be the vibe OP likes.

Jason is hilarious on Twitter and one of the most gifted songwriters of our generation. Not country, exactly, but absolutely should be on OP’s playlist.

You’re Gonna Miss This by Trace Adkins (if they have little kids)

I'm not into much country music but this song hits me every time. My 'kids' are in their 30's and I still cry when I hear it.

NP - thanks for the good cry! Forgot about this and reminds me of

Alan Jackson’s Remember When

Anyone know the popular country song -- not more than a couple years old -- about running out of time, missed opportunity, and not waiting too long to do things? One of the lines is about proposing to a girl instead of her ending up with someone else?

PP made me think of this one.

Marry Me- Thomas Rhett

It depends what type of other music they like.

If they like James Taylor then try John Denver Rocky Mountain High etc.
Female pop singers then try Sugarland or Lady Antebellum.
Ed Sheeran try Keith Urban.
80s stuff - Shania Twain etc

Nostalgic stuff - Jimmy Buffet, Kenny Rogers, Glen Campbell, Reba McIntyre

He's amazingly talented. Upbeat, he is not.

A lot of people who think they don’t like country like Chris Stapleton. Bluesy and not known for his upbeat songs, but “Starting Over” (most probably know it from the Ram truck commercial) and “When the Stars Come Out” come to mind. Also, “A Simple Song” and “Traveller.”

People who don’t think they like country listening to Chris Stapleton always reminds me of this wonderful video (which has spawned about 100 imitations):

Pp here — Just saw OP’s post about the road trip — “Traveller” and “Starting Over” are great road trip songs.

His Tennessean Whiskey cover is great. But no performance beats his mash up with Justin Timberlake at the CMA awards show.

Toby Keith is like the manifestation of the things people don't like about Country

I don’t like him personally but think this is a really good song. Classic country:
