Beware “Ozempic Face”

Ozempic and Wegovy are brand names for the exact same drug called semaglutide. One is marketed/approved for diabetes and one is marketed/approved for weight loss.

They’re soooo mad. So so mad.

They are mad that people are fat?

They're mad that fat people have access to a relatively easy and painless way to be thin.

Remember, there's always a price to be paid when you take a shortcut.

Oooh I'll remember that when I wake up tomorrow and weigh in; if it's anything like the previous 32 weeks, i'll be down another 2 pounds!

OMG you are going to make all of those skinny people jealous! They just can't stop thinking about it 24/7!

Yes, we’re all soooooo jealous of someone who had more than 32 pounds to lose.

lol seriously. I think I have seen this poster around - thin people are mad that fat people can access clothes now, jealous about weight loss drugs, whatever. I am thin and trust me this is not something I spend my time thinking about. I have no reason to be jealous of someone who had 30+ pounds to lose, for any reason. I can enjoy all the foods I want in a reasonable way and don't have to worry about getting fat! I know heavier people are jealous, because I have been told many times "oh I hate you you're so skinny, blah blah" So die mad about it, I guess!

Yet the three of you seem awful triggered by what the PP said about her weight loss. Why is that? If you really didn’t care you’d shrug and move on. Maybe silently be thankful you don’t have to take a drug to be thin. Hell, you probably wouldn’t even be reading this discussion, much less responding at length, if you really didn’t care about people taking Ozempic for weight loss. Methinks the skinnies doth protest too much.

I opened this thread because one of my loved ones is on this drug.

Most of us seem to be responding to the first comment: "The number of people who are absolutely furious that semiglutide works well for weight control and so who desperately want to believe made-up negative stories about it is truly staggering." And like, no, we aren't furious or jealous or whatever. I am not sure why so many overweight people need to tell themselves this.

It hasn’t caused medullary thyroid cancer in humans in the 7 years since Ozempic trials began. Since I’m not a rodent I’m not too worried.

Those of us who are on it for weight loss understand it’s a lifelong medication like any medication that manages a chronic condition, according to all data so far.

Do you know if the trails include only the lower dose that diabetics take or was the higher dose used for weight loss also included?

Bullshit. I use scissors to cut stuff instead of clawing it apart.

The number of people I know in the suburbs who've had one of the weight loss surgeries would shock everyone. People confide in me. No one openly admits it. One of my neighbors did it and is the worst for fat shaming people.

Diabetics take up to 2.0 mg, not that different from 2.4 mg of Wegovy.

A lot of people take much less than 2.0 mg for weight loss.

Well sure, but I assume that PP was getting at the higher dose for weight loss being more likely to cause thyroid cancer, I guess, but it’s irrelevant since the max doses are close. The truth is semaglutide at any dose has not shown to cause medullary thyroid cancer in humans.

It also includes the higher doses.

If this was causing widespread thyroid cancer, we should have seen it by now.

Look how many of them are desperate to believe something from People magazine of all places that is obviously not true. It is a bit crazy to me.

Lolol you want that to be true so badly don’t you? God forbid people who struggle with obesity have a tool to get to a healthy weight without price to pay. You can’t stand it. I wish I could understand why.

I already told you why. They need to believe they’re thin due to moral superiority. It unhinges them that others might appear as morally superior as them without being naturally so.

You guys, please ignore this lady. She has a confirmed mental illness and any comments implying that lifestyle impacts obesity will trigger her. I'm warning you.

I’m not that PP, but why are you so triggered. I mean she isn’t the one bleating on about “confirmed mental illness.” What sort of nonsense is that? And no, I don’t need Ozempic. I can just, you know, read the thread in front of me and it is extremely clear the skinny triggered people are the ones with serious issues.

NP. There was a previous thread whenever someone said they were successful with exercise and diet that one particular poster would go off and claim everyone was fat shaming and jealous. Diet and exercise have worked for many and these drugs prove that because they stop people from eating too many calories and that is why they lose weight. Do some people have a medical condition that contributes to obesity? Yes. Are people obese because they over eat and are sedentary? Absolutely.

If you compare a person who has been healthy and fit most of their lives to someone who was overweight, then obese, and then take 18 months to lose weight their bodies and faces look different. Ozempic face is real

It’s not Ozempic face. It’s weight loss face. Nobody is denying that being very overweight for a long time usually makes you look permanently different. It’s just so laughable that people are warning “you’ll get Ozempic face!!” as if that’s a good reason not to use it. Like okay? So what?

They’ve been telling us to lose weight for years and now that we finally have a tool to help us to do it with relative ease they’re making pathetic attempts to dissuade us from doing it. Ozempic face! You’ll pay the price! Big pharma! Just wait! It’s almost like…..they never really wanted us to lose the weight, they just liked shaming us because it felt good. At first it upset me, but now I just find the psychology of it fascinating.

Bingo bullseye, right on the money!
