Yale has had hooked kids for a long time, like other Ivies, but it's the academic qualifications of the unhooked kids that has taken a nose dive over the past 20 years.

There was a period when the Ivies embraced the idea of a meritocracy, and the best and the brightest both gravitated towards and typically ended up at Ivies. Then Yale and its peers pivoted towards promoting diversity over merit.

This is what all of this is about. The belief that the less white an institute less merit is involved. It’s really very simple.

So if you want to find a place that hasn’t lost its luster just go by the percentage of white students.

If you think Yale is the only college where you can get a good education, I’ve got a bridge to sell you

Hell no. She barely had any extracurriculars.

Where do you want these kids to get an education exactly? College costs a fortune and a person want to access the best they can..for their cash....where do you suggest they pursue their higher education?

For starters, it would be nice to do some serious thinking and introspection before deciding on a college instead of blindly following the crowd or USNWR

What don't you answer the question? Where should these poor Yalies go to get some quality higher Ed?

+1

Honors college at a state flagship evidently.

That may be a fantastic choice but it is ridiculous to make that assumption for every student at Yale. Some have found a great match at Yale and some would have been better off elsewhere. That can be said for every institution including state flagships.

Bingo! My xyz stat kid didn't get in so there's no way the other 49,999 applicants were qualified. Ridiculous.

No one knowledgeable has said that, and no one knowledgeable thinks that.

Some people though, are looking for a white environment— not a racially or even ethnically diverse one. And some people are thinking of a college degree, not as education, but as a straight shot ticket to wealth, and maybe even power. I wonder if such folks might be happier with Brigham Young? Or Dartmouth?

For decades, the I was always the number to to Harvard. It had extraordinary status. However, as of late, it seems like top schools such as Brown University and University of Chicago have surpassed Yale’s prestige. Regardless, it’s still prestigious as heck!!!

Prestige should honestly not even be part of the decision. Look around a find a good match. For some it will be Yale, for some Harvard or Brown or u Chicago or some other place. Good luck.

It’s just part of the Republican/Russian effort to attack and neutralize any institutions that might be strong enough to stand up to tyranny.

They bought and mostly shut down or neutered news organizations, stomped on the Catholic Church, canceled Hollywood, and now are trying to beat universities into submission.

This is not about whether Harvard or Yale is a good school. This is about scaring college professors and keeping us from taking their views seriously if they talk about global warming or Putin’s assault on Ukraine, or about some future effort to sell Alaska to Russia or China.

HPSM still don't need any special programs to recruit their admits, so I'd say Yale pushed themselves out of the top grouping. Probably more akin to Columbia, Penn, Duke, Caltech now.

This is a good point, they basically admitted they couldn't play in the same league as HPSM by starting a scholarship program for admitted students.

She was a legacy with excellent grades from a top prep school.

Hypsm have differences and a good experience for a particular student at one would not necessarily translate to all of them. But if whatever this scholarship program is repels your kid from Yale then so what? Send them off to MIT if that floats their boat.

Emphasis on knowledgeable, as there seem to be some who would sell their kidney for a shot at Yale
