Yes, the problem is people discussing how awful these dogs are and not the fact people are allowed to own these dogs. In the most recent posted case, dogs that had attacked before and been confiscated. Somehow they were GIVEN BACK THE DOGS. Who then attacked 4 people.

This is such insanity I don’t know how people *don’t* talk about it. I would lose my shit if these things ever come near my kids while we’re out in public.

I don't get a thrill either. As a dog lover, i don't understand why people stand by and defend these breeds while child after child gets mauled, maimed disfigured, traumatized, and killed. Maybe you think it's better if we all turn our heads and remain silent and pretend that beagles, labs and poodles cause these types of injuries on a frequent basis, too?

Omg the comments on that Twitter thread are insane. Example: “Marley was discriminated due to her breed and not given a fair review of the issue in court. This should be concerning to all because discrimination feeds discrimination and justice should be for all. There was no need to hurry a kill before the announced date but to avoid court.”

I think you have to have a few screws loose to be a pit bull apologist. Also even if the little Yorkie was in the “wrong” for coming up to the pit bull, the appropriate response is not mauling it to death. I would be freaking horrified if my lab/hound dog killed a small dog just for approaching him. At most this warrants a quick snarl telling the other dog to back off.

Just as an FYI, the Yorkie survived and its owner accepted responsibility for the incident and signed the petition to stop the other dog from being euthanized. The whole situation was awful but if it’s going to be discussed, at least make sure the facts are correct.

It wasn’t just that incident, though. The dog had a long history of reacting violently and truly had no business living in a crowded place like Rosslyn.

Same. I volunteered to walk dogs at a large shelter once a month. Their regular walkers had their favorites and I always had to walk the pits. I was walking one that I had walked sevreal times and it got agitated at something (no idea what) and it turned and bit at my leg (thankfully missed my skin)and got my jeans, didn't lock on, just quick. That was it for me. We used to donate to local rescues but I am not supporting the housing/care of them anymore. Too dangerous.

I am uncomfortable walking my dogs past pits or pit mixes. I usually try to cross the street and get a dirty look from the pit owners but I don't want to risk them biting my dogs
