Hey clueless, let me try, once again, to spell this out for you: there are no dog breeds that don't bite. That is the point. Not whatever twisted nonsense you seem to have derived from it to justify continuing your anti "pit bull" ranting. If only you understood how idiotic you sounded when you say this sort of stuff, but there's enough of you idiots that you sit in your little echo chamber and think you all sound so smart. Meanwhile, none of you can cite facts, you're all gullible af and believe clickbait news, you make up ridiculously hyperbolic examples about "packs of pit bulls" hunting your kids... And you wonder why those of us who own dogs you probably couldn't even recognize as being "pit bull" mixes try to interject some sense into threads like this. If you're not insane, change the way you see things. If you keep up this nonsense, it's no longer a story about "pit bulls", it's a story about the incredible ignorance, gullible nature, and pervasive mob mentality of some modern dog owners. |
Imagine thinking the problem is that people try to engage with your pit bull! I want nothing to do with these dogs and I don’t want them around my kid but so many people try to force you to engage with their dog. |
Who are these people who "try to force you to engage with" their "pit bull"? I've never met them. I've met dozens, probably hundreds at this point, of people with dogs on retractable leashes, or off leash entirely, running up into my space and harassing my dog (regardless of the fact that one of them "looks like a 'pit bull'"). I've never once had this happen with a pit. So while I believe that it does, I doubt, strongly, that it happens the way that it would need to in order to justify the hate on this thread, and the pervasive hate of "pit bulls" in general. You probably can't even properly ID any of the 5 breeds you're calling "pit bulls" and even if you could, I doubt completely your story that they're just running up on your kid, left and right, every day, hunting in packs, mauling everyone at least once and twice on Tuesdays. This is a made-up problem you've likely never personally experienced even once. You read a clickbait article about it, got scared, and decided that your integrity standards allow you to be both willfully ignorant and hateful simultaneously. |
Any dog can be a biter but pit bulls have been specifically bred to bite and hold on -- pits were bred from English bull-baiting dogs, who were bred to bite and hold bulls and other large animals. So jaw strength is a distinguishing feature of the dog. Retrievers were bred to retrieve birds and other game for hunters. They were therefore bred to have "soft mouths" so that they could bring back game intact. So golden retrievers have much weaker jaws than the average pit bull. You can see this in their physicality -- retrievers have more delicate mouths and a more elongated snout, while bull terriers have shorter, more muscular snouts/jaws. It can vary by dog and with mixes obviously it can go different directions. But if you look at pure bred dogs, I'd much rather be bitten by a retriever than a pittie (obviously I'd rather not be bitten at all but as I said, any dog can be a biter). |
Eh, there are lots of crap dog owners of literally every breed. Some of them have pits. So yes, there are pit bull owners who "force" you to engage with your dog by letting them wander up and get in your business. I actually didn't used to have issues with pits, but the recent trend of more people adopting dogs and then never training them and leaving them off leash or using long leads and just generally being irresponsible, terrible dog owners has changed my mind. If you can rely on the average dog owner to train nd control their dog, then I would really prefer they not be adopting dogs who can do real damage when not trained and controlled. |
I bet you never dealt with golden retriever puppies. Those soft-mouths dogs are extremely mouthy (meaning nipping/biting as crazy when they're young). Of course, Goldens get away with it because they are so darn cute (and can't be aggressive, right?). Pits pups just don't have same treatment. There was a funny/not funny story of the family adopting 3 mo golden mix and returning it back couple of weeks later as aggressive because the DNA test showed 12% pitbull. I foster that puppy, he wasn't aggressive, he was mouthy as any golden that age would be... |
Well how about this recent example of "clickbait"? Man mauled to death in a playground by his three XL bully appearing dogs. Not pits, right? https://nypost.com/2024/12/15/us-news/california-man-mauled-to-death-by-his-own-3-dogs-in-front-of-horrified-onlookers-at-playground/ |

not even that powerful of a bite |
Hey, you forgot to mention in this response that “pit bulls” are actually 5 distinct breeds. |
It's almost like the NY Post is just some clickbait nonsense, innit? Apologies to the deceased, but WTF? The dog in the picture is badly malnourished, and who the hell thinks it's a smart idea to walk 3 dogs at a time, let alone 3 "xl bully-type" dogs, at a playground? Don't blame those dogs, blame their owner for having poor judgment so extreme that even the residual evidence thereof in a not-news article is as obvious as the sun. Any one of those dogs, properly cared for and handled, could've been a fine animal. Fine the animal who neglected them and you'll solve the problem. Or, at least, you would've, if he hadn't already chosen his own dramatic exit. Play stupid games... Wonder what sort of "discipline" he was practicing when his dogs "turned on him"? My money says those were never his loyal, well-loved, properly cared for pets to begin with, especially given the coat condition and obvious ribs on the one that survived. Of course, the fact that the dog ran away ruins the whole "they're all murderous beasts who enjoy killing anything they can" narrative, too. They didn't pack up and start hunting nearby children, they took out their abuser. I'm not mad at the dogs. |
Ah, yes. Pinterest, a reputable fact site. Lordy Jaysus... Also: Dobies. But you don't want to talk about that, do you? |
You either know it already, or have seen me spell it out so many times you're mocking me for it. Either way, the point is made. |
Goldens are freakin' vampires as puppies! ![]() Also, people are more likely to let them get away with it, both because of the cuteness, and because they're "not a pitbull". Whereas responsible pit owners redirect mouthiness to toys from the start and don't offer a whole lot of wiggle room on the subject, because we know the reputation our dogs have to carry (because of ignorant humans). |
Yep, redirect/correct/teach them not to do it. Took me a while with my golden. Now I'm fostering puppies all the time, and funny enough - pitbulls mixes are not the worst offenders when it comes to nipping - it's goldens/labs, then shepherds, and pitties trailing far behind the first two groups (anecdotal evidence, obviously, based on 50+ puppies that I fostered over the last 18 months) |
My thoughts exactly - dog in the picture was malnourished, and probably abused. Very sad for all parties involved. |
