another antisemitic vandalism incident at Walt Whitman yesterday

She had them practice it. The students who spoke at the walkout talked about how bad it was when they were at pyle. Maybe the same rabbi can speak there and to staff too.

What is the approach when kids make antisometic comments at pyle? Or staff?

Any progress on the investigation?

The fact that the One Whitman program is in homeroom tells you that there is a lack of support. Anything pushed by admin goes into homerooms across the county. "Leader in Me". Diversity training. Mental health awareness. Grade level meetings. All of it gets dumped there. The kids hate it. Seniors at my local high school told the principal that all the students and many of the teachers hate homeroom and think it is a waste. It is just MCPS checklist items. If they at least put this into a real class where the kids would be accountable for behavior it might be more successful.

Bumped into my neighbor last night who has one kid at Whitman. She said rumors in the school are that is was a student, and that student is Jewish. None of the students have reported him because "snitches get stitches".

Who knows, this could just be rumors but the previous incident at Whitman (racist graffiti) was traced back to a student who was POC, so it's not that far-fetched.

That’s not what I heard from Whitman students. Be careful what you spread. The fact that you don’t know should be enough for you to stop yourself from posting that here.

Seems to always be a student at least in the past so no reason to believe this time is any different, but leave it to parents to shift blame elsewhere.

I heard it was Trump. But, you know, rumors.

Yes! Good people must be louder than the haters. We must communicate better and work together to put an end to the hate. Whoever did this doesn’t speak for this community. We also have to teach our children to do the same.

NP. Agree. We aren't Whitman catchment, but I hope parents and students there will speak out to show that hate offers nothing for the community. Sending love and support from down county.

The kids hate One Whitman. A comprehensive plan/curriculum addressing hate in all its ugly forms would be a better plan. One Whitman feels like a box checking.

Source? The Black and White reported in 2020 that, of the 3 perpetrators who were arrested, only a recently graduated senior was named by police. If you Google his name, the Montgomery County PD press release discloses his Bethesda address and from there another Google search yields the address of his parents. I didn't want to assume that he was white based on just his name and his parents' names, so I used his parents' names to verify their employment and they are indeed not POC.

If your claim refers to the 2 unnamed perpetrators who were minors at the time of the crime, none of that information is public and this claim is impossible to verify outside of Whitman community gossip from 2 years ago.

Where exactly would you put this content? Please be specific.

Other than this, how are things going at Whitman? Are you happy with everything but the anti semitism?

How would this be different from One Whitman, what would it be like?

That senior’s lawyer said his client was present but not the one who did the painting. One of the other kids did it. Both minors are poc. You should find the information in one of the published articles.

Isn't this just another example of routine hate crimes that go on here regularly? I can't imagine anyone is okay with that, but doubt it will get better until they diversify these schools.
