Puglia, Italy = pretty rough

Anonymous
Are you an Italian trying to discourage tourists to visit Puglia do it becomes less crowded? Italians are quite upset with the rough, disrespectful tourists destroying the statues and paintings.

Horrible. Horrible in the 90s, horrible in the teens, still horrible. Dirty, nasty, crime riddled, nothing works, everyone is trying to cheat you. Shall I continue?

(Pompeii is amazing, but don't linger around Naples.)

OP here. Interesting. We were thinking about visiting Naples on the same trip, but I’m glad we didn’t. I really wanted to see Herculaneum, Capua, and Paestum (we were at Pompeii years ago), but after Puglia we just lost the desire. By contrast, I had always heard bad things about Marseille, but recently visited for the first time and loved it. It had given me hope that Naples would be like that, but apparently not!

Good. Please don't go.
Lived in Pozzouili (outside Naples) for 2 years in the 1990s. Best thing that ever happened to me. Been back and loved it. OP should stick to Epcot. And don't come back and brag about your experience. You come across like the most stereotypical British Imperialistever.

Ha, no. I am neither Italian nor Italian American. And to be fair to Puglia (and southern Italy) for a moment, we drove the length of Italy, and also encountered very bad roads and infrastructure during brief overnight stops in Tuscany and Liguria (i.e., central and northern Italy) so I honestly think the entire country has problems. But as Puglia was our destination, and we spent the most time there, it was the most disappointing and hence the subject of this thread.

I’m glad you enjoyed your time there. But sorry, also not British.

Sorry. In my haste I made a typo. Pozzouli. Just for people interested in visiting. 😀

Yes, I know you aren't British. I'm telling you that you come across as the most entitled Imperialist ever. I could call you a Spaniard in the Americas, or an Ancient Roman in northern Europe, but same difference. You want what you want. Again, go to Disney or an all-inclusive resort where they are paid to placate your desires. The rest of us will meet our fellows humans where they are and as they are.

Even when they cheat, steal, pollute, and abuse? Sorry, sometimes bad behavior should be called out, which is what I am doing here. I respect that you may have another viewpoint based on better experiences you claim to have had, and that’s your prerogative. But so is my opinion, which I ask that you respect also.

There has been NOTHING respectful about the way you’ve stereotyped and denigrated an entire large group of people. That is why so many people are calling you out. And you keep digging in more with every post. You haven’t painted a clear picture of Puglia, but you’ve certainly painted a distinctly unflattering portrait of yourself.

You’re complaining about some people polluting as jet around the world. That’s rich.

+1 well said

I honestly can’t believe this appalling thread still exists.
