Its most conservative by default that every other school in the area is extremely liberal. Its religiously conservative, but has to have some liberal families if its in the DMV.

Is the Heights school anti-gay?

The Heights is a catholic school. The catholic church believes that marriage is between one man and one woman. So you could say that The Heights (as all Catholic school should) teaches against homosexuality while maintaing the belief that we should hate the sin, not the sinner!

This is true exclusively for The Heights
The Heights t is extremely conservative. The boys are told to remain chaste until marriage. (sex free) obviously at a school like this homosexuality would be condemned.
For example: Commentary from a Heights parent: “one non Heights mother she met at her son’s swim meet “would put condoms in her son’s Christmas stockings,” she said. The Heights mothers were different...“Talking with other Heights mothers, we shared a hope our sons would remain chaste until marriage,” Ms. Maher said. “I found it comforting to find other mothers who shared that ideal, and who felt it was possible here, that it was a hope that was supported here.”

After reading this article, there’s zero chance that the Heights School is elite. In 2022, all elite schools are extremely inclusive. Diversity is something that is embraced. These schools are trying to prepare our children to acclimate to the real world once they finish. Not create homophobic and discriminatory bubbles.

Do you really think it’s realistic in 2022 that any guy is going to remain chaste until he’s married??

If we’re trying to determine “the big three Cs” then yes academics is important as well as sports but also inclusivity and diversity. Which of these schools seek out diversity?

Well you can argue with the facts all you want, but believe it or not, whether someone agrees or disagrees with you politically or religiously, it doesn't make their school less "elite."

Got to love the tolerant left --- tolerant except when someone disagrees with them on anything!

I just meant that the trend with elite schools is inclusive values and diversity. This strand is asking about which of the local schools would be the big three Catholic schools ( Big three Cs) and that implies “Elite”.

If the Strand were seeking out which were the three most conservative schools then yes the heights would be at the top of the list.

The question was elite catholic schools. A school that advocates for homosexuality and abortion freely is not truly catholic. The church says this not me.

Wow, do these schools really teach that “homosexuality is a sin?” I always assumed that they were silent on it.

Yes- crazy right!!

Like why would a catholic school teach something that the catholic church says, that the bible says, that god says. They just obviously just disobey the church and still claim to be a catholic school

Its as crazy as Charles Smith Jewish day school teaching Jewish values or a Muslim school teaching Muslim values! Who would stick to principles nowadays????

Visitation is one of the most elite schools in the country. Its stance on homosexuality is very clear. Is open and welcoming. It’s an open and affirming stance. https://www.cbsnews.com/baltimore/news/dcs-georgetown-visitation-preparatory-school-will-acknowledge-lgbt-alumnae-couples/

The Catholic society of the United States has a list of open and affirming churches and schools. My guess is that prep is open and affirming, too.

Hello - member of The Heights community here. Our school and the catholic church teach to hate the sin, not the sinner. We can still hold traditional catholic values that few other schools in the area have whilst still being an elite school.

For academics? No

For being religious? No

For athletics? Yes

Thanks for this response. It’s confusing because my neighbor says it’s very hard to get into. Is that accurate?

Yes. Very hard to get into and very strong academics. A hater has been circulating the boards lately.

It’s a fine school. However it’s a safety school for people who cannot get into Georgetown prep.

Ummm. No. My kid got into Prep but it is a haul and god awful traffic to get to and from Prep and my son like the vibe better at GZ. Preferred a city campus. It’s a 15 minute car ride or Metro to GZ vs a 45-50 min ride home like we have had to do from Prep some game days.

No, they are not. They are extremely exclusive. That is what you are paying for. That is what you want. Your own kind of bubble.

There is more diversity at my sons’ independent Catholic HD than at our local public school in a wealthy area.

That’s because you choose to live in a wealthy, homogeneous area.

Do you two really think that your teenage boys are going to not have sex and actually wait until marriage? this is a real question I’m not trying to be snarky.
