Why is University of Delaware never discussed here?

No skin in the game but I liked downtown Newark, and that students can walk to it. Cute and offers a lot

My kid is at UD in mech e and absolutely loves it. They really focus on practical projects right away, so alongside the physics and engineering classes he’s also getting to use all the fabrication machines and design products. Also it’s a great distance from the DC area and Newark is a nice small college town.

So glad someone brought this up. My son has UDel on his list and I was very impressed with the campus and academics. I actually prefer that campus over UMD which seems under construction at all times.

I know many, mannnnnnnny UD grads who have gone one to do very, very well for themselves.

+1
The Delaware alums I know are impressive. I don’t know why it isn’t talked about more here, especially as an engineering option.

It’s not an instate option for most of DCUM (doesn’t seem like Delaware is particularly represented) and the sports teams aren’t nationally ranked in anything.

The campus is fine and Newark is fine…but nothing incredible.

Just explaining why it isn’t talked about here more.

Pudding brain Biden went there. Who the hell would want to go to claim the same school as that idiot?

Here in NJ, UDel seems to be a safety for kids aiming for Rutgers or Maryland. It has a good engineering program, it's pretty enough, well respected enough by local employers, price is right. Not that exciting but dozens of nice, middle of the pack kids from the local high school wind up there every year.

Obviously this is a reason lots of people would pick Delaware.

We just visited and really liked it. Much nicer than UMD.

Ditto this. College Park is just really depressing (IMO).
UDel feels like a real college.

Don't jump on me. This is my opinion only.

Strange take to me.

UMD > UDel, and if you are from in state, the cost of UMD is so much cheaper than oos UDel which again, is not as well regarded as UMD.

So, you would pay $$$ for an inferior school just so that your kid can experience being oos? It's not like Del is that different from MD.

It's a tiny no nothing state, other than Biden is from there. At least at UMD you are close to DC metro where there are more job and internship opportunities, and things to do.

DD could not have gotten in to UMCP. We also looked at JMU/CNU/VCU, Miami Ohio, UMBC, Towson, Elon, Temple, Pitt.

Honestly, based on the campuses, I would pick UMBC or Towson over UMCP.

I know people here are all wrapped up in numbers/prestige, but there is more to whether a school is a good fit.

Agreed that fit is very important but never umbc or Towson over UMD lol

+1 hysterical

And I say this as a parent of one kid at UMDCP and one probably who's going to end up at Towson.

Trump, who speaks at a 5th grade level, went to UPenn and Fordham; Bush went to Yale.

Who the hell would want to go to claim the same school as those idiots?

See how that goes?

Not a plus. Dude just got told to sit down and shut up so we can install another candidate. He rolled over like the coward he is. I'm sure Delaware is a fine enough school but name Joe Flacco as an accomplished alumni, not the other idiot.

oh shut it with this stupid line. This is like saying UPenn is a joke because Trump graduated from there, or Bush and Yale.

Considering only 46 people in the nation’s history have ever been elected President…and you are an absolute nobody that no one would care less if you were hit by a bus today…well enough said.

But UPenn and Yale are objectively not a joke. Delaware, the state that is a suburb of Philly and their "flagship" is. You are making a really bad argument.
