Why is University of Delaware never discussed here?

None of these families were particularly concerned with prestige, their kids got to "go away" to school, enjoyed their experience, received fine educations.

Yea, this is total BS. If these people have kids smart enough to get into UMCP, they're gonna get into better schools than Delaware.

Newsflash: not all kids choose the "best" (which to you is synonymous with most highly ranked I guess) school they get into.

They take a more holistic approach, and opt for best fit.

Then you have the sheep, who allow USNWR to choose their college . Lot of them in evidence here.

LOL. Sorry your kid is average. Must be hard.

Nailed it.

How sad the PP’s souls must be to take the time to type that out. Be better or at least try.

People really do suck. It’s either T20 or community college - There is no in between for them

I’m happily finding hidden gems that are nowhere near the top of any lists, but could be a great fit for my daughter.

Currently liking a random directional U in MI.

Have you seen Franklin & Marshall's mascots? Connecticut College's?

That would be an incredibly stupid way to choose your undergraduate school.

Leggy the Keg was my mascot, it was awesome!

BTW UDELL is on the Maryland border. A lot of kids in Maryland go there. Parts of Maryland are as little as 15 minutes away.

My daughter got into Honors so got Honors housing, has a really good academic scholarship, she wanted to go away and UMCP too close. But plus Plus side all her friends live in either Maryland or NJ. Close enough to get together in summer.

My other daughter went to school 9 hours away which was a headache for me and her friends she never saw in summer or break.

Yup, as I said above, Cecil County is right across the line. None of the MD state schools are as close.

If it helped my kids avoid people like PP, I wouldn't hesitate to send them to Delaware.

Amen to this. 1000%

My kids are at a DC Big3 high school and are busting their butts for top grades. But for what? 4 more years at a stressful university and then they get to join the NW DC rat race themselves?

I bet anything that the majority of the kids from UDel will end up with more fulfilled lives than those who end up at a top 10 university, a prestigious law school, the zillion hour partnership track, etc.
I live in this world now and let me tell you--there aren't many happy people in it.

Most of my HS friends who went to UD got jobs at one of the big banks nearby

Most stayed within an hour or so of the area - some are in Philly area or Jersey now.

I thought it was SO healthy that my kid chose a school with a wonderful sense of community (plus good education of course), over more highly ranked acceptances. She was so over the mindset you are describing (having attended a “W” school in Montgomery County MD).

The physio therapist on Moulin Rouge who helped Nicole Kidman get over her broken ankle was from University of Delaware. Very successful in Los Angeles.

We had been looking at SLACs mostly, visited it as a potential safety, and my son loved it. It feels very different from UMD or Penn State. It's smaller and cuter (imo) but still has some of the features of a flagship university. Great ice cream and a working farm, right on campus.
