True. Who needs bus drivers, teachers, cafeteria staff. They aren't needed. Subs can handle everything. Summer school went so well without teachers and bus drivers, why not fall?

We stayed open all last spring, so.

No you didn't. Lots of students missed class, lots of students didn't have bus service or teachers. That's not open. That's faking it and pretending learning can go on when it can't.

You're describing virtual. Lots of students missed class. Lots of students didn't have anything close to a good home environment for learning. That's not open. That's faking it and pretending learning can go on when it can't. So now that that's settled, what is it you want? Masks?

Your post is a stretch. Kids in virtual did not use buses. If the did not participate it’s on the parents. Maybe you should monitor your kids better.

School last year was a helluva lot more effective than the virtual year. There's zero debate about that.

**Far** more students missed school due to building closures and quarantines than due to bus service gaps.

MCPS could align with the CDC, *recommending* masks when MoCo is at High, but it shouldn’t reimpose a mask mandate.

The bolded, right there.

If there is no county-wide mask mandate, insisting on one solely in schools is a complete non-starter, for so many reasons.

If we had decent leadership, the majority would be masking now to help with things like reopening schools. Or, decent adults in our community who thought more of others than themselves.

There were very few building closures last year. If your kid had to quarantine, well, too bad. You knew the risks and took them. If you cared at all about educational gaps last year you would have chosen virtual, which had none.

For us virtual was far more effective. Speak for your own home and family.

There's always an extreme outlier in every scenario. Congratulations on being it.

You can’t really say that after just two years of Virtual. And also, wait and see how things work out in the long run for the kids who are Virtual.

How are you defining ‘effective’.

It was not effective for the majority of kids.

I would support the state of Maryland offering a Virtual option for anyone who wants it. But otherwise, in person school is clearly a superior option for most kids.

Funny, at this point, I think "decent" people would care more about kids' mental health and long-term well-being than their own health anxiety.

There's over 1 million people in MoCo. Hundreds of thousands have no vested interest in school. Not to mention the millions in surrounding counties. Or the 7 billion people on the planet. Saying people should be decent is just message board nonsense. It means nothing.

Aside, we don't need help reopening schools. It happened last year, and it's going to happen again in two weeks.

The kids were way more affected by lack of teachers, constant subs, and shuffled into auditoriums not learning anything than virtual. You’re just lying to yourself if you think any differently.

You're a mind-reader now? How special.
