Pass 7th grade Advance SOL (taken at 6th grade AAP) and minimum 91% on Iowa Test is the requirement to take Algebra 1 in 7th grade.

Just math SOL or all of them?

SOL Pass tests are older, and the newer tests are believed to be much more difficult.

Based on how things are done in DD's school and those of her friends that go to other schools, there is a pretty wide spectrum in terms of how prepared the kids are for the SOLs. This is the first year any of DD's teachers have done ANY prep at all for the SOLs, and this was for maybe a week or two before the tests. One of her friends said that her teachers finished their curriculum in February, and everything they have done since, was SOL prep. I'm sure it is reflected in the schools' SOL results.

In FCPS at least, 6th graders in AAP or advanced math take the 7th grade math SOL. Not sure what happens for 7th graders who want to take Algebra in 8th.

Any 7th grader can take algebra or algebra honors in 8th. Mine did regular math 7 in 7th and then Algebra honors in 8th.

Just the Math SOL, as LA SOL is not really relevant to math placement.

Just anonymously adding my fifth grader to the
list of science shame.

She didn't qualify for summer school, I was told she was doing "fine" two weeks ago (when they knew her scores).

I heard through the grapevine that fifth grade science was a bloodbath across the board. Ten year olds shouldn't be "taught" science with google slides.

Weirdly, my 5th grader's highest score (600) was science.

Yet my 3rd grader, who consumes books like water but does not put much effort into anything, only got pass proficient in reading.

Some kids are great at regurgitating facts from worksheets.
