A simple way to handle tip in Maryland is 3 x tax if you are happy with the service. Tax is 6%. So that’s 18%. Round to the nearest dollar. This worked much better when tax was 5%. As the average too was 15% that way.
Though you have to be careful. Like top golf. Was the service taxed? In that case take the total bill and deduct the golf fees and tax and the leave 15% of the new total. I have a simple rule. If I sit down and I order and I am served they get 15%. 20% if they really did a good job. That’s it. The only other person that gets a tip is the barber. You hand them a 5. No one else and I mean no one gets a Tip. Why give your money away. |
I agree with you, but I do this with the proliferation of tipping, cashiers may start to think of non tippers as cheap. So I feel some pressure to tip a little sometimes because I don’t want someone to spit in my food, as a PP said. |
