Wow, I never realized how terrible the gap is between in MoCo vs NoVa for jobs

Why has MoCo declined so badly? New to the area...

Google has been buying up companies all over for decades.

Not in MoCo! No one with a brain would HQ or put a growth commonly in MoCo. And they don’t.

There are a lot of cities where Google hasn't bought a company up, but they do recruit out of UMD.

There are several biotech companies that have expanded in MoCo. I guess they are dumber than you, even though they are probably richer than you are.

This is the DMV, people live and work all over. Who cares if there are more jobs in NoVA. I could see if housing prices were suppressed b/c of it, but they aren't. I hate NoVA. Would never live there. Who cares? I should live there b/c there are more jobs? I'm a lawyer. BTW, I live in DC.

Because MD and MoCo don't diversify their tax base, duh. If everyone in MoCo has to drive to VA for jobs, it means the only real revenue for the county overwhelmingly comes from income taxes. When the county needs more money what can they do? All they can do is raise property and income taxes. The fact that MoCo cannot grow organically and create jobs other than ones that suck off the govt teat means it misses out on tons of corporate taxes that help reduce the taxation burden on residents. Residents will flee if all the county can ever do is raise taxes and struggles to create quality jobs.

LOL. Is that the reason why more people moved to MoCo in the last 10 years than to Fairfax county? People reluctantly move to NoVa because of their jobs and not because of quality of life. Even with plenty of jobs, NoVa is not a pleasant place to live.
Btw, 66% of MoCo residents work in MoCo.

LMAO.

MoCo has tons of illegal immigrants moving in and poorer people. Not a great base to build taxes on.

You could see it as MoCo is nicer to people with no means. VA is no lover of poor people, it seems.

Housing is much more expensive in Virginia, that's why there are more poor people in MoCo. There are more jobs for poor people in MoCo too.

As stated, VA has no love for poor people. I guess the lack of concern for poor people and having empathy are what makes VA (an entire state) so much better than MoCo (a county).

Really? What inferiority complex? Because when I look at these threads I usually see VA posters let the data and facts around things like job growth speak for themselves, while many DC and especially MD posters sit around taking potshots with the maturity level and ignorance of a 10 year-old.

Seems like you might be projecting your own inferiority complex, PP.

What's the point of all these threads? So VA folks can feel good about themselves? Stick it to MoCo?
Inferiority complex

Again, I ask, why do VA people consistently compare *ONE* county in MD with the entire state of VA. That screams *insecure* to me. And I'm originally from out west.

No one impressed by pre-market biotech. Biotech pays notoriously low, has super unstable jobs, and can get vaporized overnight if they have any clinical development setbacks.

Microsoft, Oracle, Amazon jobs >>>>>>biotech.

There are 11 fortune 500 companies in Fairfax. There are 2 in MoCo. That's all you need to know lol

So any Democrats considering moving to NoVa but turned off by our horrifying governor should know that a) they would not be surrounded by conservatives and b) they’d be doing a “good deed” for the Democratic Party by moving here and voting Democratic!!!

duh. Come on, MD, share your blue voters with us...

+1, MD is notoriously a tax and spend dem state. Companies don't want to land there unless they have to. Virginia is more friendly to business and taxes less.

MD Resident-VA's zoning (or lack thereof) gives it more space to grow and sprawl which is what happened in Loudoun.

We shouldn't kid ourselves about some of the backwards types in Frederick County or Calvert. They could hold their own against VA rednecks.

They're not. They're mostly comparing Arlington/FFX/Alexandria and sometimes Loudoun/Prince William.

I mean do you want to include PG county in with Moco? I'm not sure it's a favorable comparison and it would make Maryland look even worse.

The vast majority of people in this area move the closest they can to the place they work. We moved to MoCo because it was closer and less expensive. As far as I am concerned, most areas in the DC metro are much of a muchness.

So, it's the whole NoVa Vs one county in MD.
