Wow, I never realized how terrible the gap is between in MoCo vs NoVa for jobs

So basically, MoCo relies entirely on govt jobs and some crappy low paying service sector jobs at places like Giant, Safeway, and Target. Meanwhile in NoVa, the top employers are major banks, super high end tech and software companies, top consulting firms, and other major professional services firms. I never knew MoCo was getting its lunch eaten this bad. NoVa has way, way better jobs and a far better diversity of jobs/firms. MoCo relies entirely on govt, clearly has a severe lack of innovative firms that pay high salaries when compared to NoVa, and a large portion of their residents working in very low quality service sector jobs that probably pay just over minimum wage. How is MoCo not doomed with this flimsy of a tax and employer base?

This is all old news. MoCo gave up on jobs and decided to be a bedroom community for people working in DC and VA years ago.

It's been this way for years. MoCo is not business-friendly at all.

Heck, they just passed a new regulation requiring all restaurants, even the smallest corner deli, to offer a healthy kids meal option:

"huge" might be a stretch but a number of biopharma companies have operations in MoCo (AstraZeneca, Novavax, Emergent Biosolutions). The Biohealth Capital Region (DMV) is a nationally ranked Biopharma cluster (https://www.genengnews.com/a-lists/top-10-u-s-biopharma-clusters-8) and the area certainly benefited from vaccine R&D/manufacturing. It will be interesting to see which area can capitalize on this post-covid - NOVA resident.

Fairfax left MoCo in the dust years ago. VA left MD behind years ago. This isn’t new news. And the cheap potshots you hear about VA being “backwards” is nothing more than masked jealously.

I’d rather work for NIH than a defense contractor.
I’d rather have Hogan for a governor than Youngkin.
I’d rather live in a state where my neighbors would recognize just how repugnant someone like Youngkin is — and vote accordingly.

In defense of NoVa…. Northern Virginia OVERWHELMINGLY did not vote for Youngkin. And the more dems we get to move to NoVa from DC, the more likely we can fully turn Virginia blue. So any Democrats considering moving to NoVa but turned off by our horrifying governor should know that a) they would not be surrounded by conservatives and b) they’d be doing a “good deed” for the Democratic Party by moving here and voting Democratic!!!
