Wow, I never realized how terrible the gap is between in MoCo vs NoVa for jobs

I'm not a fan of MoCo (have made a lot of negative comments about it, and I live here), but as a minority female, I just can't stand Youngkin and his ilk, and the backwards attitude that they have. I have really only worked in the private sector, so I don't care about government jobs. But, the lack of private sector jobs in MoCo is a concern. I get recruited by companies out in NoVa, and I decline because the commute would kill me.

Elrich is an idiot, and I think registering as a R in MoCo is a waste. People who want a more moderate MoCo should register as a D and vote for a moderate in the primary. Otherwise, we will just keep getting uber progressives that don't know how to bring business into the county and only know how to spend our tax dollars.

So any Democrats considering moving to NoVa but turned off by our horrifying governor should know that a) they would not be surrounded by conservatives and b) they’d be doing a “good deed” for the Democratic Party by moving here and voting Democratic!!!

Virginia works because it's purple and pragmatic. I don't want a blue or a red state, I want a state where both parties have a legitimate chance of winning and thus have to care about moderate voters.

But what about racist, misogynist MAGAs like Youngkin?

I don't want a state where someone like him could win.

Youngkin never happens if local government didn't collectively lose their minds.

You mean taking a cautious approach to deadly, global pandemic? Or offer an anti-bias training to teachers?

Fcking lame excuses to elect a POS MAGA governor.

MoCo has $$$ housing too. My H is from THE TOWN of CC (as my MIL would like to emphasize) and the housing is more $$ than McLean.

The last time the VA GOP went after abortion women didn't run away and the VA GOP ended up losing statewide for over a decade

This is such a dumb post. Yes, MoCo is a bedroom community. Ok? It's not like their housing got cheaper. Please still choose to live there. This is the DMV, people live and work all over. Who cares if there are more jobs in NoVA. I could see if housing prices were suppressed b/c of it, but they aren't. I hate NoVA. Would never live there. Who cares? I should live there b/c there are more jobs? I'm a lawyer. BTW, I live in DC.

That was a long time ago and a different GOP. They kept the crazy under wraps a little better back then.

2021 was a record-setting year for anti-abortion GOP legislation.

Because MD and MoCo don't diversify their tax base, duh. If everyone in MoCo has to drive to VA for jobs, it means the only real revenue for the county overwhelmingly comes from income taxes. When the county needs more money what can they do? All they can do is raise property and income taxes. The fact that MoCo cannot grow organically and create jobs other than ones that suck off the govt teat means it misses out on tons of corporate taxes that help reduce the taxation burden on residents. Residents will flee if all the county can ever do is raise taxes and struggles to create quality jobs.

While I agree that NoVA has more attractive employers on the whole, it doesn't seem like you're reading the list correctly, and that you misunderstand a lot about it, namely, that places like NIH and other governmental orgs pay salaries that are comparable to COF and Amazon for many of their workers, and that Marriott and Giant are HQs and not service jobs.

Go have a lunchtime glass of Chardonnay or something.

Heck, they just passed a new regulation requiring all restaurants, even the smallest corner deli, to offer a healthy kids meal option:

So? Any restaurant worth its salt should be able to easily figure out how to have a healthy kids option available.

Government offers similar salaries to Amazon? You HAVE to be a trust fund baby and not currently employed at either.

I'm from Howard County, the richest county in MD. I'm sure they have very few jobs there. No one is complaining.
