Trump's habit of ripping up documents

I personally think Biden shouldn't be glossing over that in the name of some unity we are never going to achieve. Get this Supreme Court nominee confirmed, call up your old pals McConnell and Graham, etc. and go in with a guns blazing speech. There is an opportunity here. Seize it.

Exactly.

Get er done, Biden. SCOTUS. Then lock up this MFer.

These are NOT the same things. Where are the "lock her up" folks?

Hmmm, maybe it wasn't about emails.

Put this in the RW vs LW media thread.

He doesn't have the perseverance or attention span to actually get the good stuff. And people knew he was careless and would no doubt shred or take stuff back. If anything, he'd trade what he had for favors, influence, or property/deals. Not money. My two cents anyway.

We - as in the country - are rapidly running out of time to hold Trump accountable. And I'm not sure it's going to happen at all. This country pulled off kind of a massive feat in the 2020 election and decisively voted Trump out of office. Listen to some podcasts and historians. What we did as voters is kind of unusual. And Joe Biden isn't a Bill Clinton or Barack Obama. He was old establishment and he wasn't Trump. I personally think Biden shouldn't be glossing over that in the name of some unity we are never going to achieve. I’m sorry, my comment was worded poorly (I’m the PP to whom you’re replying). I don’t think Trump was selling documents, I think he was trying to destroy documents that demonstrated the extent to which his decision making was influenced by selling America, making decisions that benefited another country or another group over what would be best for America.

How can they not prosecute this? If I took a bunch of top secret documents home with me, they wouldn’t hesitate to put me in jail.

Of course, but you're not the former President. If there's anything we've learned in the last several years it's that Trump has an amazing ability to escape accountability.

If this story is true I find it appalling that FBI and DOJ haven't even reviewed the documents and are still trying to decide what to do.

Some flunky will take the fall here and be fined and Trump will claim he didn't know anything about those boxes. Or nothing at all will happen per the usual.

It's insanity.

He is the most corrupt president ever. He's like Caligula on steroids.

But none of the fun! That's part of what I find so baffling about him. It's all the excess and corruption and trappings of being the big banana republic dictator guy - and no one ever looks like they are having a good time whatsoever. They seem miserable.

He literally had classified documents in his home. How can anyone deny that he broke the law? What part of this is ambiguous? Where are all of the Republicans on this thread?

I think the law requires intent or gross negligence. I don’t know how easy that is going to be to prove with a White House that was full of shysters.

Nah, I think they make it pretty clear how documents are to be treated. Like just about everyone else in DC, my husband has worked at high clearances and it’s not a mystery how those documents are supposed to be treated. They don’t just “go home” with you and there’s no need for intent or gross negligence. We all know or know of people who have taken documents home or left them on metro. Those people do not usually keep their jobs, and in this instance of a President*** absconding with top secret documents, should not keep his liberty. Reality Winner served years for one page, not god knows how many pages in 15 boxes (so far).

Terrible childhoods. They’ve all normalized abuse as love and so they’re happy to take it, gaslight the rest of us that it’s good.

Trump demonstrated that he knew the laws about this with his public comments projecting onto Pelosi after she ripped up the copy someone gave her of his SOTU speech.

+1 He knows full well what he did. We just need to find out why he did it. Which of his crimes is he hiding evidence of? Did Putin send him a copy of the Helsinki notes finally? Is it that damning?

And sadly, it won’t matter. No one with the authority to do so will go after Trump for treason. He won’t spend a single night in prison, and he definitely will not be punished for treason by penalty of death. He can and has and will do anything he wants.
